Food Review: Tolido’s Espresso Nook

The Place There was a time when hanging in town was cool. But nothing beats hanging in the estates now. One after another, hipster cafes have been opening in residential areas, with Tolido’s Espresso Nook being one of the latest. True that North Bridge Road ain’t really out of town, but the Crawford estate have always been more associated with local delights such as Ba Chor Mee, Fish Head Steamboat etc, rather than the unsuspecting brunch and latte.

Tolido done up its interior with an industrial chic vibe, adopting a more laid back look to its finishings. Good environment to chill the afternoon away, but note the seats are limited – so you might just have to end up sharing tables with strangers!

Sofa seats options are available at Tolido’s! Prepare to sink yourself into this and chill….IMG_1406

The Food Apparently the barrister was award wining, but as of press time, tRP has not been able to verify this yet. Nonetheless, there were no surprises on the menu, ranging from the expectable coffee options to the brunch selections. Snapshots of the menu:IMG_1383
The Latte ($5.50) was not too shabby. Good taste, nice for a Sunday chill-lax coffee.IMG_1393

The big breakfast of Tolido, the Tolido’s American Breakfast ($8.90), puts the standard all-Yankee’s favourite into one. Sausages, bacon, baked beans, eggs and well, the butter & toast. And as the picture below, anyone could have done it right at home! Rather bland, home-cooked style. Only consolation would definitely be its comparatively affordable brunch price.IMG_1389

Pancakes are served at Tolido’s too. The ‘aptly’ named Tolido Pancakes ($7.90) are anything but unique here. Again, tasting rather home-booked, the tasteless chicken sausage didn’t help much.IMG_1398

Appetizing? Nah!IMG_1403

Rants Poor food standard! With the steep competition amongst cafes in Singapore, Tolido’s has entered the game lagging far behind its peers.

Will I return again? For its coffee, at best. Never for its food, never ever.
