Food Review: Grain Traders @ Market Street | Eat well concept at CapitaGreen Singapore

The Place Yet another new restaurant in CBD. Opened merely less than a week, Grain Traders is out to feed you right, going by its philosophy. Eating well often gives me the notion of all greens and a lack of flavour, but this week old spot offers more than a salad joint. Strategically located at the new CapitaGreen building, it boasts a spacious area by CBD standards, with a food station and a separate coffee counter. I embraced the space like it’s a respite from the incessant lunch crowd. Interestingly, the concept of Grain Traders is a collaboration between KILO and Papa Palheta group, given the specialisation in donburi as well as the supply of Chye Seng Huat coffee beans. IMG-20150903-WA0005 The Food The Hero Bowls here are all at $16 nett, with various combinations of ingredients but all of which promises a balanced nutritional value and flavour. The concept is pretty much self-service as well – let the service staff take your order at the food counter, your rice bowl will be prepared along the way right in front of you, and lastly, pay money.
IMG-20150903-WA0007e IMG-20150903-WA0008eI had the El Hibaro bowl, with slices of striploin beef, greens such as tomatoes and sprouts, paired with salsa verde sauce. The vivid colours of presentation perked my day in some ways and I also like the balanced flavours in one rice bowl, even though I have to say the mediocre striploin beef slices were not warm enough.
IMG-20150902-WA0003My Flat White ($5.50) definitely fared better.

Rants Will you pay $16 for a healthy rice bowl for lunch everyday? Certainly not cheap for a daily lunch affair.

Will I Return Again? Grain Traders is a nice lunch spot for all CBD folks with decent quality and a comfortable ambience away from the crowd. It is always nice to spend slightly more for lunch once in awhile and this is a place I will bring my friends to. There is nothing not to love about the notion of eating healthy over a good cuppa coffee, especially after being desk bound the whole day.
