Food Review: Triple Three at Mandarin Orchard Singapore | One of the best hotel buffet along Orchard Road

The Place Mandarin Orchard Singapore by Meritus’ Triple Three has always been one of our favourite buffet restaurants. Located in the heart of Orchard Road, the spacious restaurant is a Japanese inspired buffet and is easily one of the best hotel buffet restaurants along Orchard Road. True to its inspiration, Triple Three has periodic Japanese buffet themes such as a focus on a specific prefecture in Japan where specific ingredients and dishes are highlighted, with the latest being the popular Hokkaido Harvest.

The Food The buffet variety is considerably wide for a usual day, where you get your sashimi live stations, various cuts of meats, oriental dishes, Indian and other Asian cuisines, as well as a wide dessert spread.

Specific to the Hokkaido Harvest promotion season, some of the special highlights include Hokkaido seafood such as King Crab, Snow Crab, Hokkaido Scallops, and freshly shucked Oysters.

For cooked seafood dishes, there is a live robatayaki station where you can get grilled skewers like Mackerel and Shishamo, to Scallops and Oysters all prepared a la minute.

For sushi and sashimi, some of the Hokkaido specials include the Hokkaido chirashi topped with Snow Crab, Ikura, Salmon, Tuna and Prawn Sashimi served over sushi rice; as well as sashimi such as Bluefin Tuna and Swordfish.

On meat options, there are options like Hokkaido Buta Don (grilled pork rice bowl), and Hokkaido Roast Beef. For something more exotic, try the Shirako Agedashi (deep fried cod fish milt).

For desserts, the first item to come to my kind is Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart and indeed, it is part of the special dessert spread. The mini tarts are baked freshly in small batches with a rich milk flavour, and it is probably the best dessert I had here.

Other dessert treats to expect include Hokkaido Milk Ice Cream, Azuki Roll Cakes, Cream Puffs, along with confectioneries and pastries such as Grilled Mochi Balls filled with Hokkaido Red Bean called “Mitarashi Dango”.

Even the ice cream flavours are Hokkaido theme, with flavours like Hokkaido Sea Salt, Raspberry and Yoichi Apple. My favourite is the fresh Hokkaido Milk flavour.

Rants As with all F&B establishments and perhaps due to the huge space, it took awhile for our tables to be cleared. When we were at the ice cream counter, there wasn’t any spoons available; and had us hunting the scarce utensil. Just some small improvements that could have otherwise made the experience better.

Will I Return Again? Prices are not cheap, though they are regular credit promotions to entice diners. That said, Triple Three is easily one of the best hotel buffets in Orchard Road with fairly consistent quality and decent spread.

Went there on 6 April 2018 with family and was totally disappointed. Firstly the restuarant don’t even provide the basic napkin. No dessert fork or spoon can be found. The worst was when I waved to reach out to staff to pass the bill, this lady floor manager (phil) came from behind and just snap rudely to take it away from my hand Other then Japanese and Indian food, the rest of food was either too sweet, salty or tasteless. Never stepping into this restaurant again.

    • Oh no that’s sad to hear! Agree that the service can be quite messy, especially if you want to get extra utensils. The highlight for us is definitely the Japanese cuisine!
