The Place Freshly made Putu Piring in Melaka? Located at Jalan Tengkera, Putu Piring Tengkera is a family run business has been around for more than 30 years and remains a very popular spot for locals and tourists to get their hands on homemade Putu Piring. The family used to sell their Putu Piring right in front of their house but we understand that they no longer live in the same compound. That said, it is still interesting to watch how they prepare and cook the Putu Piring in a harmonised fashion.
The Food Priced at RM1.20 each, the size of the Putu Piring is much bigger than the ones from Haig Road Putu Piring in comparison. Gula Melaka and coconut are added to the rice flour, and then steamed over pandan leaves to give it the nice aroma. Most people end up buying in boxes of 8 or 10 after an average waiting time of about 30 minutes as the Putu Piring are all freshly made upon order.
My first thought after having the first bite is that the coconut element can be stepped up further. The gula melaka is also not as intense as I expected, hence there is that bit of sweetness missing. That said, it is still a decent piece of Putu Piring if you are a fan of this Street snack.
Rants There is no space to sit and enjoy the Putu Piring snacks so the best way to have it fresh is to eat on the spot by the road. Otherwise, it doesn’t taste as good once it turns cold.
Will I Return Again? I wouldn’t wait in line for more than 30 minutes again to put in perspective. I still prefer the ones from Haig Road in Singapore which has all the right balance of ingredients for my liking.
