Food Review: Go Noodle House At 313 Somerset | Have A Go At This Malaysian Noodle Chain In Orchard Road

The Place Originally from Malaysia, Go Noodle House opened its first outlet in Singapore few weeks ago at the basement of 313 Somerset. I am surprised that this causal noodle restaurant already has 37 outlets in Malaysia and Australia since 2014, started by three good friends. The 70-seater restaurant takes is relatively spacious, and takes on a Qing Dynasty interior where you can spot Kangxi and Qianlong emperor portraits on the wall.

The Food Noodles, what else? The brand is known for its homemade noodles which gets supplied from Malaysia to Singapore, where the noodles is done Jiangxi-province style. The founders are also proud of the fish bone broth here which is prepared from a family recipe. The menu is pretty extensive, though you can’t go very wrong with some of the signatures. I started with the Signature Bursting Meatballs in Superior Stock (S$10.90), a good option to share and the pork balls here are filled generously with minced pork.

Another good to share dish is the Handmade Fish Paste (S$11.90), which is very fresh. The fish bone broth is very comforting to stomach as well, and there is also the option of adding the ‘Shao Xing Hua Diao Jiu’ or Chinese Wine to the broth for a more elevated flavour. I would recommend going with the shot of wine.

For noodles, I had the Hakka Sauce Pan Mee With Century Egg (S$9.90) which comes with freshly made ‘Ban Mian’. The noodle itself is quite flavourful, as it is coated with pork lard and comes with black fungus, fried shallots, fried anchovies, minced pork and century egg.

A more heavily flavoured noodle will be the Thick Pan Mee In Special Dark Sauce With Onsen Egg (S$8.90). This is quite a good value option with the egg, and there is also a spicy version which I was told is very spicy.

Noodles aside, there are a couple of snack dishes such as the Five Spice Meat Roll (S$4.90), Crispy Fuchuk (S$4.90) and Gold Coin Pork (S$6.90). You can also get a Trio Platter of the above combination for S$12.90, which is a much better value. My favourite of the lot is the crispy fuchuk, which is essentially fried beancurd skin.

If you still have space, the crispy You Tiao (S$4.90) is served with homemade kaya, which is quite an interesting combination.

Rants Not the most Keto-friendly meal, if that is the latest diet you have embarked on.

Will I Return Again? If you are looking for a fuss-free meal in town, Go Noodle House is worth a go.

This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.
