The Place Located in Gardens by the Bay, Majestic Bay Seafood Restaurant is the only Chinese restaurant in the popular Singapore attraction and is located beside the entrance to Cloud Forest and below the Flower Dome. I checked out Majestic Bay recently as it is currently running a 1-for-1 Weekend Dim Sum Buffet promotion, which offers a relatively affordable buffet deal.
One nice aspect of the restaurant’s interior is the spaciousness between each table, and I managed to get a table right beside the window which is more ideal for food photography.
The Food S$46++ per person at 1-for-1 on weekends and public holidays for the buffet, which sounds like a very decent deal to check out. That makes it about S$27 nett per person. The menu is old school style, where you will a paper to write your orders with pencil. In terms of variety, it is quite a good range for the price and there is one section on the menu where you can only order once.
We started with some of the one-off dishes part of the buffet with some highlights such as the Cantonese Roast Duck, Jiangsu Style Baby Pork Ribs and Sweet and Sour Fish. Decent quality here for these dishes, though nothing really stands out particularly.
The rest of the menu comprise of small plates, soup, rice & noodles and dim sum. I didn’t manage to try everything as expected, but you can expect dishes like Steamed Xiao Long Bao, Steamed Prawn Dumplings, Glutinous Rice Dumpling, Salted Bean Pastry and Pan-Seared Radish Cake for dim sum.
My favourite is the Xiao Long Bao, though the skin can definitely be thinner. The best ones I had are still from Din Tai Feng, and Paradise Dynasty comes in a close second place.
The Salted Bean Pastry is just like ‘Tau Sar Piah’.
The rest of the dim sum dishes are average, though skip the glutinous rice as it is really bland.
From the small plates section, you can’t go wrong with the Onsen Tamago with Truffle Oil and Salted Egg Yolk Pumpkin. A small rant on the spelling of the word ‘Osen’ instead of ‘Onsen’ on the order slip.
I also had the Stewed Tofu in Claypot, which is quite good as it comes with a mix of soft tofu and generous portions of vegetables.
I skipped the rice & noodles section completely, though you can expect options like Yang Zhou Pork Fried Rice, Sautéed Beef Hor Fun Noodles and Ee Fu Noodles with Mushrooms.
Dessert options is nothing fanciful – Magnolia Ice Cream or Sea Coconut Lemongrass Jelly.
Rants Average food, average service.
Will I Return Again? I value quality more than value, and struggle to find a reason to be back for the same buffet. That said, I am happy to return to its sister Majestic Restaurant at Marina One over this outlet.
