Singapore – Joo Chiat is buzzing with new eateries, cafes and restaurants in the past few months, a gentrification which remind me of Tiong Bahru many years ago. Here are the exciting new openings to suss out!
Forma
Forma is a new Italian restaurant along Tembeling Road with a pasta-focused programme by The Cicheti Group, in collaboration with Singapore’s foremost pasta artisan Yumhwa Lee of Ben Fatto. With a pasta focused theme, the menu at Forma is concise and you can expect a series of starters, pastas, mains and desserts. Hello Arigato
With its first outlet in Upper Thomson last year, Hello Arigato serves Japanese comfort food and is most well-known for its sando, or Japanese sandwich. The second outlet opened in Joo Chiat last month, with an exclusive Har Cheong Sando option in addition to its all-time favourite Tamago Sando and Beef Sando. Grab a coffee and sando, and brunch is great.

Cafe Natsu
A concept by the Ebb & Flow Group (Tigerlily, Willow), Cafe Natsu is strategically located at the junction of Joo Chiat and Koon Seng Road, right beside hole-in-the-wall Kohi Roastery & Coffee Bar. It will be opening on 10 May, and you can expect dishes such as Eggs Benedict and Soufflé Pancakes with Japanese touches. The gorgeous space is framed by wooden window panes and has great natural lighting in the day.

Kohi Roastery & Coffee Bar
Kohi is a Japanese influenced cafe from Bangkok, Thailand. It started out late last year as a back-alley take-out store by tipping service. It has since added table and chairs to the back-alley, and along the shophouse corridor. Kohi serves a comprehensive coffee list, and this is one of the most charming spot for a pit-stop in Joo Chiat, right close to the famous row of colourful Peranakan heritage shophouses.

Dickson Nasi Lemak
The hottest Nasi Lemak joint in Singapore right now. Located at 320 Joo Chiat Road in a shophouse unit right opposite Petit Pain, Dickson Nasi Lemak is run by the same team behind the popular Champion Bolo Bun, and their Nasi Lemak recipe is from a famed restaurant rated best Nasi Lemak in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Wen Kang Ji Wanton Noodle
It first opened in Golden Mile Food Centre last yearm and the second outpost is located in a small coffeeshop in Joo Chiat as the crowd’s favourite Da Dong Prawn Noodles. Choose from Wanton Noodle or Dumpling Noodle, where the char siew is a highlight. [Read more here…]
