Food Review: Loysel’s Toy [Closed]
The Place From the same group behind Papa Palheta’s coffee, Loysel’s Toy is serious in brewing top-notch coffee and it carries the same brand of coffee beans as Papa Palheta’s. I like the old ware-house location of Loysel’s Toy as it is a short walking distance from Lavender station and yet it feels secluded from the rest of the world.
Most of the seats are outdoors with limited indoor seats. The cafe is seriously packed on weekends with a whole myraid of coffee drinkers. For those who fancy cycling around Kallang river, they even have bikes for rent.
As a winner of the National Barista Award, I have high expectations for the coffee from Loysel’s Toy.
Other than coffee and food, coffee beans and other coffee making equipment such as filters and apparatus are on sale as well.
The Food I was surprised that there is a breakfast menu as well other than coffee, but I decided to reserve that for another day. Otherwise, Brunch lovers will be pleased to know that Eggs Benedict and Pancakes are offered here as well.
I think the best test of a cafe’s coffee is by ordering the Affogato ($7). The Espresso is really strong, not for the faint hearted. I love how generous they are with the Vanilla ice-cream as well, which is definitely as crucial in making a good Affogato.
I should have ordered the Hot Mocha instead of the Ice Mocha ($6), as I think the taste of the coffee is diluted by the ice. Nevertheless, it is not too bad a choice on a hot day especially if Espresso is too strong for your liking.
Will I return again? Definitely, as Loysel’s Toy serves one of the best coffee around in Singapore. I am sure to order from the Breakfast menu the next time round.
