Food Review: Tung Lok Seafood | Decent seafood fares in Singapore
The Place One of the many branches of Tung Lok Group, Tung Lok Seafood is specialised in seafood obviously to compete with some of the other older players such as Jumbo Seafood and Long Beach. There are currently only 2 branches of this franchise, in Upper Jurong Road and in Orchard Central, which is the outlet I visited.
The Food As the name of the restaurant suggest, seafood is their forte but I did not order the usual suspects such as Chilli Crab or Steamed Fish. Other than seafood, I was also surprised to see sushi and sashimi on the menu.
Crispy eggplant with floss ($8) – This is meant to be an appetiser but I was quite disappointed with my first dish. The eggplant is rather tasteless and not crispy at all.
Crispy fishskin with salted egg yolk ($8) – Our second appetiser is the saving grace after the first one we had. If you are a fan of salted egg yolk prawn, this is a must order as well. The fishskin is very crispy and the salted egg yolk coated on it is optimal.
Crispy oats prawn ($24) – This dish is within my expectations. The prawn is quite fresh even though I thought that the taste of the oats can be more buttery.
Beancurd with Nameko mushrooms ($18) – This is a healthier choice after the series of fried food. I must say that I am not surprised by the dish as I think that it is within my expectations as well.
Coffee pork ribs ($18) – The pork ribs is another big disappointment we had. The coffee taste is non-existent to me and not to mention that the texture of the pork ribs is too tough. The taste is pretty bland as well.
Rants With the above average prices at Tung Lok Seafood, the quality is somehow disproportionate to its price.
Will I return again? Quite frankly, it’s a no.
