Food Review: The Velvet Cut At Joo Chiat | A Sleek Muslim-Owned Steakhouse By The Malayan Council

The Place Located in Joo Chiat, The Velvet Cut is a new addition to this buzzing enclave which is a Muslim-owned steakhouse by The Malayan Council. The space of the restaurant is dressed in dark red tones and complemented by modern finishes which works for couple date nights or group meals.

The Food Other than beef, the ala carte menu also features other meats such as fish and chicken.

I started with the Bone Marrow (S$21) which is a decadent starter. The best way to enjoy this is to spread the fatty bone marrow over bread.

For mains, the New York Strip (S$54) is one of their signature cuts. Served simply with a lemon wedge and salt, I had my steak cooked to medium-rare. I do think that the seasoning for the beef could be stepped up.

As opposed to the New York Strip, I enjoyed the Dry Aged Burger (S$30) more as the patty was juicy with a smoky flavour, accompanied by housemade horseradish sauce, caramelised onions, and cheese.

Side dishes to add on to your mains include the likes of Truffle Mac and Cheese (S$12) which could do with more crisp for its texture.

Rants Prices lean towards the premium side.

Will I Return Again? It is a steep competition in terms of the dining scene in Joo Chiat, but not many are Muslim-owned, so this is one option to consider for Muslim friends. That said, prices are on the premium end at The Velvet Cut, and hopefully the seasoning of its steak and overall flavours of the dishes could improve in time to come.
