The Hotel There is a particular type of luxury that doesn’t scream for attention. No double-height gold lobbies, no dramatic scent pumped through the air, no staff lining up like it’s a military parade. One of the hotels stays I was looking forward to in the first half of this year is Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, the tallest Park Hyatt property in the world now. 

Located in one of the most iconic buildings – Merdeka 118 (also currently the second-tallest building in the world) in Kuala Lumpur, the hotel lobby is located on level 75. Upon entering the building where your car drops you off, you need to take the escalator to level two and take the elevator from there to level 75. 

Once you reach level 75, you will be greeted by the gorgeous lobby — understated, architectural, almost restrained — and for travellers who prefer calm over theatre, it quietly makes its case. 

The check-in process was fairly fuss-free, and I had a staff member who escorted me to my room. 

The Rooms My room is located on level 111, the highest I have ever stayed in my life which is kind of surreal.

I checked into the 1 King Bed City View room category which is a spacious 570-635 sq ft (53-59 sqm). 

Upon entering the room is mini foyer area where the mini-bar is which includes a Nespresso coffee machine. 

The vibe of the room is extremely cosy, denominated by muted palettes — warm wood, soft stone, understated textiles — and I get that sense of space. There is a spacious work desk which is genuinely usable for business travellers. 

Unwind within this 53- to 59-square-metre room, featuring one king bed, a walk-in wardrobe and panoramic city views. The other highlight of the room is the relaxation sofa area beside the floor-to-ceiling windows. 

The bed is quite comfortable, though I would prefer it if the mattress is even firmer than it is. I also appreciate the automated blackout curtains which make sleeping a breeze. 

The next part of the room is the huge walk-in closet where there are no issues storing two big pieces of luggage.    

The other highlight is the bathroom, which is my favourite part of the room. It continues with the same design language: clean lines, natural materials, generous double vanity counter space. 

The rain shower delivers pressure without drama, and the deep soaking tub becomes an easy excuse to pause the day rather than rush through it. 

Notable bathroom amenities include Dyson hair dryer, and everyone’s favourite  Le Labo bath amenities. 

The Facilities I love the facilities here, probably one big key reason I want to be back. 

Located on level 99, the Fitness Centre is thoughtfully equipped and spacious enough to avoid peak-hour claustrophobia. Machines are well spaced, natural light filters in, and the atmosphere encourages consistency rather than punishment. It is the kind of gym where I will want to work out daily. 

On the same level is also the Spa and Pool. One of the most beautiful city hotel pools I have been, the statement piece element of the pool design is the natural light through the floor-to-ceiling windows in the day. 

It is a 30-meter infinity pool but trust me, you will be blown away by the design and city views from here. 

I love how composed the pool is. No party vibes here — just clean lines, a tranquil setting, and views that remind you exactly how high above the city you are. 

Even if you are not swimming, there are ample lounge beds to chill, and a warm jacuzzi zone to soak in the views of Petronas Twin Towers and Menara Kuala Lumpur. 

Hotel guests also have complimentary access to the separate gender spa facilities like jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, and experience shower. I love how tranquil the space is, where the changing area has ample lockers and space to freshen up as well. 

The Restaurants All of Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur’s dining venues sit on Level 75 of Merdeka 118, and rather than scattering concepts across the building, the hotel gathers them into one elevated culinary floor. 

The all-day dining restaurant is Park Lounge which blends Asian and Western comfort food with a nod to Malaysian heritage. The ambience is more relaxed than Merdeka Grill and works well for breakfast meetings, lunch, or a lazy afternoon lunch. 

Breakfast is served at Park Lounge and happy to report that the buffet spread here is very varied, from a whole table of pastries, cakes, to the live stations where you can get local delights like Nasi Lemak and noodles. 

In addition to the buffet spread, there is also a menu to order unlimited servings of dishes such as eggs done your way, kaya toast, and more. 

I also managed to have lunch at Park Lounge which is lovely as there was even a live music performance. The signature dessert is their mille-feuille which I highly recommend. 

Merdeka Grill, on the other hand, is the hotel’s flagship fine‑dining restaurant focused on premium grill cuisine. Expect top‑quality meats and sustainable seafood, with a strong emphasis on tableside finishes and technique. I did not manage to have a meal here, but the space surely looks gorgeous which include private dining rooms as well. 

Cacao Mixology & Chocolate is the hotel’s signature bar concept, and also Kuala Lumpur’s highest bar. The focus here is on cacao — as both flavour and art form — expressed through chocolate‑inspired cocktails, spirits pairings, and artisanal desserts.

I managed to grab a drink here, and it is well-suited as a destination for evening drinks with a sophisticated mood, skyline views, and a strong sense of novelty without feeling gimmicky. 

Rants Some minor hiccups in my rooms when I checked in such as the TV remote control with faulty battery, but the team did the service recovery well. 

Overall Experience This is my first ever Park Hyatt stay and I love it. Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur isn’t trying to be the most dramatic hotel in the city — and that’s precisely its strength. It is a property for travellers who value space over spectacle, calm over chaos, and design that ages well rather than trends hard. It really is an oasis amidst the busy city, and I can’t wait to be back.
