Food Review: Spruce | Lush cafe in Phoenix Park
The Place Located just a short drive away from Orchard Road, Spruce has been one of my favourite Brunch restaurant all along. I like the fact that it is so close to town yet I am able to feel like I am out of this world.
There are plenty of alfresco seats here where you can enjoy your Brunch in the cool greenery surroundings as the place is kind of designed to be integrated with the tress in Phoenix Park. Reservation is a must as the crowd on weekends can be quite crazy. Due to its rather exclusive location along Tanglin Road, it is recommended to either drive or cab here.
The Food From traditional English breakfast to pancakes, Spruce is an ideal venue for Brunch, be it with your family or friends. The prices are comparable with other Brunch places such as Wild Honey, but I must say the biggest draw has got to be its ambience and location.
For a start, I had the Cafe Mocha ($6), which is sourced from Melbourne’s Giancarlo Coffee.

The Hotcakes ($6) which comes under the sides category proves to be one of the most value for money item on the menu. The texture of the pancakes is just right and it goes perfectly with the maple syrup.
For my mains, I decided to order the house special: Spruce Big Brekkie ($18) as I reckon that it has the perfect breakfast combination – Eggs (Scrambled, Poached or Sunny Side up), mushrooms, german sausage, potato, bacon and tomatoes.
The other mains we tried was the Brioche French Toast with Mascarpone and Peach Jam ($14). Compared to the Hotcakes ($6), I would say that this is less value for money even though it is still worth a try especially if you are a fan of French Toast.

For desserts, the Chocolate ice-cream ($3) I had totally tasted like Magnolia ice-cream. I was disappointed that there is so little effort made in serving good quality ice-cream in Spruce. Please avoid ordering the ice-cream at all costs.
Not surprisingly, the Affogato ($7) which comes along is bad as well. I thought that the Espresso is good but alas it is no saving grace when taken with the sub-standard Vanilla ice-cream. This is definitely one of the worst Affogato around.
Will I return again? Yes, for I simply love the ambience of Spruce as well as the quality of food served here except for the horrible desserts.
