Food Review: L’Espresso | Old English style high tea @ Goodwood Park Hotel

The Place There are many hotel cafes in Singapore which offer high-tea buffet but L’Espresso is arguably the most renowned choice for a traditional English high-tea experience. I could not agree more.
IMG_0516L’Espresso is housed within the spacious lobby area where there are indoor and alfresco seatings. It is highly in demand which means a reservation is a sure must and it is not at all exaggerating to recommend doing so at least a few days in advance. I like the long lobby seating arrangement as it provides me the much appreciated space to enjoy a meal in comfort.
IMG_0538The Food At $45++ per person, I would say that it is reasonably priced as compared to other similar establishments like Rose Veranda or The Landing Point. The spread here is strictly the English style, so you will be disappointed if you are expecting the likes of Japanese sushi or Dim Sum delights.

For a start, I like to have the delicately prepared Sandwiches as it comes in various flavours, with my favourite being the Tuna with egg sandwich.
IMG_0520For salmon lovers, the Smoked salmon is a must try as well.

The star item at L’Espresso has got to be the Scones as I have heard much rave reviews about it. I like the texture of the scone as it is just right and perfect with some butter or jam. It is also not too buttery and the moist is optimal as well.
IMG_0551Other than scones and sandwiches, there are also mini Chicken burgers and fried chicken. The crispy chicken burgers are so addictive that I could not resist having a few of it.

A high-tea buffet is never complete without the dessert corner and I think that the selection is pretty decent. There is a chocolate fondue, different flavours of cake and Häagen-Dazs ice-cream for the brand’s fanatics.
IMG_0534This is my first round of serving and it is actually good that L’Espresso make its food portions small as that enables me to inadvertently stomach a wider variety of food.
IMG_0542I was also delighted by the fact that each diner is entitled to choose 2 beverages from its drinks menu from its wide variety of tea and various kinds of coffee. I had the iced mocha and iced chocolate, which both turned out to be ideal choices for me. IMG_0545Finally, the perfect way to end off the high-tea buffet for me is to enjoy the momentary sugar rush.
IMG_0558Rants It seems that the buffet selection here is not much changed after a few years and with the high price I am paying, I will wish to expect that there is more revamp of its buffet selection in order to entice customers to return more frequently.

Will I return again? I am sure this will not be my last visit to L’Espresso with its above average quality of food. However, it will probably not be any time soon since there are alot of other options to choose from.
