The Place Located at the eighth floor of Orchard Central, the newly opened Thai mookata buffet restaurant Talay Kata takes on an easy, simple decor with a buffet line stretching more than 10 meters in the middle of the restaurant. At Talay Kata, you can expect to enjoy the Thai-style steamboat in the comfort of air conditioning, and best still, with the smoke suction right above the mookata if you are concerned about walking out smelling differently.

The Food Now, I am sure you have enjoyed mookata in Singapore before. A craze that started here some years back, where you can now enjoy this at various establishments. Here at Talay Kata, you get to enjoy unlimited seafood and steamboat selections at under S$35 for lunch and under S$40 for dinner! Get here during weekday lunch hours, and you will only need to fork out slightly more than S$20 to eat to your heart’s delight!

Starting from the soup base, take your pick from the always popular Tom Yum soup, the reliable Chicken soup, the Japanese inspired Bonito soup or the latest craze Salted Egg soup. The favourite for the night amongst the other diners appeared to be the Salted Egg soup, but we opted for the Tom Yum soup instead since it is all about getting an authentic Thai experience here. The soup definitely captured the essence of tom yum, although it would be great if the sweetness can be toned down with a spicier kick.

There is a wide selection of meats as well, with the usual suspects like Beef cubes, Chicken slices, Pork and Bacon-wrapped Shiitake mushrooms. The seafood options takes centre-stage here with slipper lobsters, Japanese scallops, Salmon slices and even bamboo clams on the buffet spread, almost a must-visit buffet for seafood lovers at an affordable price.

Rants Tables are placed in close proximity in the restaurant, and high chance that you might be sitting right beside Mr and Mrs Stranger.

Will I Return Again? Overall for the price tag, the buffet spread you get to enjoy at Talay Kata will surprise you. Having said that, you must be prepared that the quality will not be top notch. If you are looking for an affordable mookata option located right smack in town with a comforting ambience, Talay Kata is an obvious choice.
