Food Review: The Buffet at M Hotel Singapore, Tanjong Pagar | Seafood Steamboat Buffet Dinner at CBD

The Place I have heard of the steamboat buffet at M Hotel Singapore previously, and I finally had the chance to check it out. Located at level two of the hotel along Anson Road in Tanjong Pagar, The Buffet restaurant serves a regular buffet line for lunch. In the evening, the space transforms to a Seafood Steamboat Buffet Dinner concept.

For the love of steamboat, here is a list of some of our favourite steamboat restaurants in Singapore.

The Food Unlimited serving of seafood is perhaps the real reason people flock to The Buffet, otherwise the other items are basic steamboat fare. Choose your choice of steamboat broths, with options including Spicy Thai Tom Yum (S$5), Eight Treasure Soup (S$12), Double-boiled Imperial Collagen Broth from Japan (S$12) which uses pork bone, or there is also the complimentary Superior Chicken broth. All broths have no MSG.

Prices start from S$65++ per adult, though I do see certain discounts being offered on some booking platforms.

I opted for a mix of the Spicy Thai Tom Yum and Double-boiled Imperial Collagen Broth. The Tom Yum is moderately spicy, while the Collagen Broth is quite light in flavour. Both broths are relatively diluted.

In terms of the buffet spread, seafood is the highlight here as mentioned, with quite a wide variety like Fish Maw, Salmon Ball, Lobster Ball, Clams, Mussels, Prawns, Pomfret, Mud Crab and Flower Crab. There are quite a number of premium ingredients out there, and the tip is definitely to be attentive to moments where it is being refilled as your fellow diners will be out grabbing them soon.

Other ingredients on the buffet line include the likes of Yong Tau Foo, various types of mushrooms including Enoki, Shiitake and Abalone Mushroom, and meat options like Pork Collar, Sliced Beef and Pork Belly. In terms of quality of ingredients, it is not the most premium around and definitely not something to benchmark against other steamboat restaurants like Beauty in The Pot.

Rants The restaurant spots a dated and tired look.

Will I Return Again? I am not that big a seafood eater, and the idea of a buffet doesn’t excite me that much anymore. That said, there is a good range of ingredients from meats to seafood at The Buffet restaurant, and if you are love seafood and the idea of enjoying unlimited servings of it excites you, this is one place you should head to next.

This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.
