Hotel Review: Hilton Singapore At Orchard Road | Foodie Staycation Experience From S$245++
The Hotel It has been an old establishment in Orchard Road but I only managed to stay at the Hilton Singapore recent for its Foodie Steak-Cation Package. This is one of the three Hilton properties in Singapore, and there are parts of the hotel which has undergone some form of refurbishments.
Take the lobby for example, which was refurbished few years ago. My check-in process on a weekend stay was relatively smooth, and if you were to drive, do note that you have to make your way to the hotel’s main entrance due to the current safe entry situation.
Many hotels in Singapore have come up with creative stay packaged to lure the local market, and the Foodie Steak-Cation Package is one to consider if you have been interested to try the restaurants at Hilton Singapore.
This package starts from S$265++ per night and is available until 30 April 2021, including the following benefits:
- One-night stay for up to 2 adults. Children aged 16 years and below stay for free in the same room for up to 2 children.
- Daily Hilton Breakfast and premium WiFi
The highlight of the Steak-Cation Package is the complimentary meal at Opus Bar & Grill, which includes an Opus premium sharing steak dinner experience for two persons, inclusive of 2-hour free flow wine (valued at S$188++). Choose from one of the signature sharing steaks:
- Signature 1kg U.S. Black Angus bone-in rib eye, dry-aged, marble score 4;
- Wagyu and lobster of 500g Australian Wagyu sirloin and Marine Stewardship Council-certified Boston lobster;
- 1.2kg whiskey-aged Rangers Valley Wagyu Tomahawk, 360 days grain-fed, marble score 5.
I went for the first steak option, perfect to share for two if you love your beef.
The Room My stay was for the King Hilton Premium Room, a modest size of 32 sqm. My first impression of the room is the dated design, though far to say that it is fairly well-maintained. I do understand that some of the suites have already been revamped to a more contemporary look, and it is a shame that the refurbishment was not extended to the rest of the rooms just yet.
In terms of amenities, you can pretty much find the basic hotel offerings in this room – a Nespresso machine which is a given in most 4 or 5 star hotels these days, 50-inch IPTV, ans a work desk with Herman Miller ergonomic chair.
The bathroom is decent and comes with a rain forest shower, and Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries. A small gripe I have is the mismatch of tile colours for the bathroom floor and the shower area, which I am sure the OCD in you will notice.
The Facilities The rooftop level is where the swimming pool is, a modest size which is good if you want to catch a suntan. The Italian restaurant il Cielo overlooks the pool, so it might be wise to avoid the pool during meal times if you prefer not to be part of the “people watching”.
The gym is located a level below the pool and while is quite dated, it is spacious and very well-equipped. The equipment is also relatively well-maintained.
For rooms with lounge access or Hilton Diamond status holders, the Executive Lounge is newly renovated and is definitely one of my favourite spots in the property. Evening canapés is served daily with a rotating menu, along with unlimited beverages. I do like that the lounge interior has three main sections tucked away from one another for better privacy as opposed to a completely open space.
The Restaurants Breakfast is served at Opus Bar & Grill, which is also a steakhouse in the evening.
I chose to have my breakfast in the Executive Lounge instead where the only option is the Continental Breakfast. Otherwise, head over to Opus Bar & Grill for breakfast which also offers an Asian option.
Other dining concepts in the property include il Cielo, an Italian restaurant with Japanese influences beside the pool; D9 Cakery located at the lobby which specialises in cakes and pastries; and Verde Kitchen which is a health food concept located at level two.
Rants It is really the visible age of the property at certain corners like the gym and in my case, the room.
Overall Experience If you were to factor in the dinner value at Opus Bar & Grill for the Steak-Cation Package, you are effectively paying less than S$100 for a room in Orchard Road. That said, go for the revamped Executive Suites if possible for a better experience.
