Food Review: 618 Sim Carrot Cake At Yishun | Fried White Carrot Cake With Copious Chye Poh
The Place Yishun is not my familiar territory but there is one carrot cake stall I have been keen to try after seeing posts on social media, 618 Sim Carrot Cake. Located in a small coffeeshop at Yishun Ring Road, expect a considerable wait at this popular carrot cake stall which is famous for its carrot cake with copious amount of preserved radish, aka ‘chye poh’.
The Food Prices start from S$3.50 for the basic fried carrot cake, and note that the stall only serves the white carrot cake version.
I went for the S$3.50 as a first timer and no refresh because the portion is huge! It is interesting to see that the fried rice cake is served alongside an equally generous serving of the ‘chye poh’, which makes a beautiful plate.
The carrot cake is definitely an above average plate. Its texture is reasonably crispy, while the ‘chye poh’ flavour is good.
You get a nice balance of fried carrot cake and heaps of ‘chye poh’ all at one go. Do not neglect the chilli as it definitely adds that extra oomph for me.
Rants I waited about 30 minutes though the good thing is that it is a buzzer system and you do not have to physically wait in line.
Will I Return Again? I am keen to try the fried carrot cake with prawns next time round, so I guess I need to be back again!
