Food Review: Jia Wei Chinese Restaurant At Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy | Contemporary Restaurant Tucked Away Behind Katong

The Place Located in Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy hotel, Jia Wei Chinese Restaurant is quite an underrated restaurant in the east, given its location right behind the buzzing Katong district and opposite Parkway Parade. The interior of the Chinese restaurant is contemporary, after a revamp few years back in a bid to draw in the younger crowd. Fairly spacious setting, ideal for small or big family sizes.

The Food The menu is quite an extensive option and for a start, I had the Crispy Local Farm Soft Shell Crab (S$20/Per serving) with crystal ice plant, plum infused tomato and yuzu dressing. It is an interesting combination of soft-shell crab with crystal ice plant, where the crab is crispy and delicious. A noteworthy mention of using local produce!

For meats, the Jia Wei Peking Duck (S$42/half, S$80/whole) is quite reasonably priced. Crispy Peking duck skin, though there is nothing fancy (no caviar, colourful crepes to wrap around or sugar condiment) about this version as well.

It is a basic yet relatively delicious Peking duck.

There is also the option of having the Wok Fried Minced Duck Meat with Romaine Leaf Cup for the rest of the duck meat.

You can’t go wrong with one of the signature dishes, the Jia Wei Ocean Gems Vermicelli in Opeh Leaf (S$28). Texture of the vermicelli is relatively wet and there is a decent wok-hei.

For dessert, I had the Chilled Homemade Coconut Pudding with Ice Cream (S$12), a refreshing end to the meal.

Rants It is easy to overlook Jia Wei Chinese Restaurant given that it is pretty low profile compared to other Chinese restaurants in other hotels. As the property is still a SHN hotel, you need to skirt around Roxy Square if you were to park your car there to get to the restaurant.

Will I Return Again? A very decent Chinese restaurant to check out in the east if you are looking for a quieter dining spot. The range of dishes on the menu also suit bigger dining groups.
