Food Review: Cheeky Bee Hoon At East Coast Road | Casual Restaurant With Handmade Malaysian-Inspired Beehoon

The Place A new addition to the buzzing East Coast Road & Katong district is Cheeky Bee Hoon, a casual restaurant which specialises in handmade Malaysian-inspired beehoon dishes. The most striking aspect of the interior are the vintage elements like the signboard, old-school telephone booth and benches.

The Food The menu is straightforward, with three main dishes and a selection of sides. Options include the Cheeky Bee Hoon Soup ($8.80), Cheeky Bee Hoon Dry ($8.80), and the Cheeky Bee Hoon With Braised Pork ($8.80).

I enjoyed the broth of the Cheeky Bee Hoon Soup which has a natural sweetness from the clams, where the bee hoon itself soaks up the natural goodness of the broth and is very tasty.

The Cheeky Bee Hoon With Braised Pork is also worth trying since the ‘wok-hei’ flavour is stronger here, and you get that delicious tender braised pork to go along as well.

For sides, expect the likes of Stir-Fried Cabbage (S$3.80), Crab Dumplings (S$4.80), and Charcoal You Tiao With Otah (S$4.80). My favourite of the lot is the You Tiao, which was crisp and fragrant from the spices and coconut milk.

Rants The space is quite cramped and expect to wait during peak dining hours.

Will I Return Again? Overall, Cheeky Bee Hoon offers a good option in Katong for a casual meal with their handmade beehoon dishes. Prices are affordable where the dishes are generally quite good.

This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.
