Food Review: Sushidan At Raffles City | Insanely Priced Japanese Omakase From S$19.90, Sushi From S$1.99

The Place There is always something new at Raffles City and the latest dining concept to open at the mall is Sushidan by Chef Hiroyuki Sato, chef-founder of Hakkoku and former head chef of the Michelin-starred Sushi Tokami from Japan. Located at basement one (which took over the space of Omote), Sushidan will open its doors in Singapore on 17 December 2025 at 1pm. 

Chef Hiroyuki Sato brings his acclaimed Edomae sushi experience to Singapore at an accessible price, offering à la carte sushi from S$1.99, sashimi from S$2.99 and omakase from S$19.90. At this price point, this is quite a new price point for an omakase experience in Singapore if you want to experience what a traditional Edomae omakase is like. 

The space of Sushidan is spacious and is mainly around the counter where the sushi is served one by one, as opposed to the regular dining tables where the sushi will be served together as a set. If you were to ask me, try to request the counter seats if possible. 

The Singapore outpost of Sushidan will be helmed by Chef Yusuke Kawana, Tokyo-trained sushi master with over 28 years of experience, previously from Sushi Sato and Sushi Ayumu. 

The Food The menu here features the renowned Red Shari, prepared with a Kyoto and Tokyo Akazu blend and premium rice from Akita Prefecture, paired with fresh seafood sourced directly from Toyosu Market and salmon air flown fresh daily from Norway. 

I had their S$29.90 omakase menu and here’s what to expect – Nigirizushi (Akami, Amaebi, Salmon, Engawa, Chutoro, Anago or Unagi), with a Negitoro Handroll, 3 Ochoko Mini-Don (Barachirashi, Anago or Unagi and Salmon Mentaiko Mayo Aburi Don), complete with Chawanmushi and Miso Soup. 

The main difference for the S$19.90 omakase vs the S$29.90 set is that the former comes with three pieces of nigiri instead of six for the S$29.90. You can also expect better grades of fishes for the S$29.90 set. The rest of the items for both sets such as the handroll, mini-don and chawanmushi are the same.

In terms of the Shari, the rice texture is firm, and the taste is slightly on the sweeter side. I honestly don’t have much complaints at this price tag. 

A noteworthy mention is that the Engawa I had here is slightly torched so you get that Aburi version.  

The mini-don course is also quite novel as it presents three different flavours for an added variety. 

If you are still not full from the omakase, you can also add on the ala carte items which start from just S$1.99.

Will I Return Again? Sushidan is quite a game changer for Japanese omakase with its insanely low price point where quality is kept very decent. It is great for diners who want to experience an omakase meal without breaking the bank, though you can’t expect the same level of refined service or setting at the more upscale Japanese restaurants as well.
