Food Scoops: The Best Restaurants & Cafes In Seminyak, Bali | From Sisterfields To Sangsaka
Bali, Indonesia – Been to Bali a couple of times and Seminyak is undoubtedly one of the most popular places to stay in Bali with plenty of good resorts like Potato Head Suites & Studios, Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach and Alila Seminyak. Here are some of our favourite restaurants and cafes to check out in Seminyak! Let us know if you think there are any of your favourite ones missing from this list.
Barbacoa
A loft restaurant with a focus on charcoal grilled Latin American cuisine, I am impressed with the dishes I had at Barbacoa where the flavours are robust and delicious. Expect a warehouse style space with high ceilings, recycled wood, mosaic tiled floors, sandstone walls and vintage leather banquettes. Standout dishes for me are Tartare, yellowfin tuna, charred leek dressing, smoked yucca crema; Papuan king prawns, woodfired in kombu butter, salmoriglio dressing; and Half charcoal chicken, spice rub, pickled green tomatoes.

Sangsaka Restaurant
I have been to Sangsaka a few times by now and I am still loving this contemporary Indonesian restaurant. Sangsaka, which loosely translates to “the pride of the flag”, is a 70-seat venue with wood fired oven and grills, an outdoor terrace for alfresco dining, and rooftop bar named ‘Diatas’ for an after-dinner tipple. The dishes are amazingly good, with highlights for me like the Udang Bumbu Rujak Solo (Tiger prawns, vermicelli, leek & tamarind), Pangsit Laksa Tangerang (Lobster dumplings, tomatoes & shellfish laksa) and Ikan Dabu Maluku (Whole snapper, tomatoes, seaweed & calamansi lime).

Kaum Bali
A modern Indonesian restaurant located in Desa Potato Head showcasing recipes from over 600 of the archipelago’s islands. Translating to ‘tribe’ in Indonesian, Kaum is a great spot if you want to try Indonesian food in a beautiful beachfront restaurant within the hip Potato Head establishment. Kaum’s menu allows for learning about the geographic origins of the dishes, introducing lesser-known regions of Indonesia such as Aceh, Sulawesi and Maluku. The menu is split into small and large plates, with a special section for sambal which showcases various regions sambal from Bali to North Sulawesi.

Wahaha Pork Ribs
Touted as one of the best pork ribs in Bali, Wahaha is a great alternative to another famous Bali brand Naughty Nuri which typically spots a long queue. The signature pork ribs at Wahaha are marinated in Balinese spices and sweet sauce, so you can expect a tender and delicious flavour. Good spot for a comfortable and casual meal in Seminyak for something local.

Kilo Bali
Kilo is not an unfamiliar brand to Singaporeans as it already has a presence in Singapore. The Bali outpost focuses on Asian-Western fusion dishes along with cocktails in an open, minimalist space. There is a garden terrace dining setting, couple with indoor seats. Dishes to expect include Truffled Tai Yuzu Roll, Korean Chicken Bulgogi, Fried Chicken and a good selection of rice bowls and sandwiches.

Baked Seminyak
You know a place is good if you would not mind heading back more than once, especially on a trip. I visited Baked Semimnyak thrice in one Bali trip, and that is a testament to how much I love the bakes here. The freshly baked croissants are delicious, so is the coffee which packs a robust and strong flavour. Originally a brand from Canggu, this is one of the best new spots to check out in Seminyak which only opened in April this year.

Sisterfields
This is perhaps the most popular café in Seminyak. Sisterfields is a modern cafe with indoor & outdoor seating offering all-day Australian-style brunch, plus cocktails. It is located right opposite Baked Seminyak, and you can pretty much expect a mix of healthy bowls and the typical brunchy eggs dishes. There is also a separate bakery attached to the main restaurant, though I say the bakes from Baked looks much better.

Craved
A minimalist café space along the main road, Craved has a good variety of reasonably priced brunch dishes to choose from along with decent coffee. You can go healthy with rice bowls with avocado, or go sinful with Korean fried chicken if you want to deviate from the usual eggs benedict.
