Food Review: Bee Kee Hong Kong Thiam Sim At Bedok Reservoir | Old School Dim Sum Shop Since 1970s With 70 Cents Siew Mai
The Place Old school Dim Sum is really quite my thing and sadly, there are not many left in Singapore. I feel that Bee Kee Hong Kong Thiam Sim deserves a special shoutout for still preserving what an old school dim sum eatery should be in fast paced Singapore. The nondescript shop is in Bedok Reservoir right beside Bedok Reservoir Food Centre, with a spacious storefront where you can have a glance of all the dim sum items.

I chatted with the auntie who runs the space and learnt that the shop has been around for more than 40 years since the 1970s, right at the same spot! A slice of rich food history which is so rare in Singapore’s context.

The Food Straightforward Dim Sum items to choose such as Siew Mai ($0.70), Big Pau (S$1.70), Char Siew Pau (S$0.90), Lo Mai Gai (S$1.70), and a few more buns.

I had the Siew Mai which is really decent for its price in terms of size and quality. It is slightly on the dry side, but still a satisfying one for me.

The Big Pau is loaded with delicious chicken, and it also has half an egg within, where you get that tinge of salted vegetable flavour as well.

I also tried the Lo Mai Gai or Glutinous Rice with Chicken, which packs a good flavour and not overly greasy.

Rants No dine-in, only takeaways.
Will I Return Again? At the end of the day, this is a no-frills takeaway spot for a casual dim sum craving. Very affordable prices, and I really like the fact that we have a long-established brand, albeit a casual one, hidden amongst our neighbourhood which is in my opinion, a gem.
