Lounge Review: Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge London Heathrow Airport Terminal 2

The Lounge I flew out of London just last month and managed to check out the SilverKris Lounge London Heathrow for the first time. The Singapore Airlines lounge is located in Terminal 2B of the busy airport, which is about 15 minutes leisure walking pace from the main Terminal 2 building which you will be at after the security check.

The SilverKris Lounge might not be that obvious to locate once you get to Terminal 2B as it is only accessible via a lift from the departure level, and it is close to departure gate B36. Mt advice is to keep an eye on the signboards.

Take the lift to level 2, and you will see the Singapore Airlines’ SilverKris Lounge reception.

The London lounge is the new-concept SilverKris Lounge, designed by renowned architectural and interior design firm ONG&ONG, and is modelled after elements of a home, similar to the flagship lounge in Singapore Changi Airport.

That said, the lounge interior looks quite dated to me, and I attribute a large part of it to the floor tiles. You have to walk past a stretch of corridor which honestly gives me clinic-vibes, before you get to the main lounge area.

The buffet section is adjacent to a small seating area, where you are close to the food, though the downside is that you do not get a runway view and natural light.

Moving deeper into the lounge, this is the main lounge space with leather sofa seats, high bar seats and individual pods which are conducive if you intend to get some work done. I visited the lounge in the morning as I was on SQ317, and it was quite packed where all the individual pods seating were occupied.

Otherwise, the best seats in my opinion are the ones beside the window, which was also predictably occupied.

Access Anyone flying on Star Alliance airlines on Business Class, or Star Alliance Gold status holders.

The Food The buffet spread is not huge, with a small selection of Asian dishes like Nasi Lemak, Sambal Chicken and Chicken Congee. Western options include the likes of salad and cold cuts. It is not amazing, as compared to the SilverKris Lounge in Singapore.

If you expect a barista to make your coffee, you will be disappointed. There are at least two coffee machines to dispense what you need.

The bonus is that there is a bartender on site behind the bar to prepare cocktails or pour the wine or prosecco you fancy.

The Facilities Fortunately, there are three shower cubicles which could be occupied most of the time. I was lucky to get an empty shower cubicle without waiting, and the design of the shower room is basic to say the least.

There is not much space to put your luggage if you have a big one, where the toiletries come without a brand as well. The hair dryer’s power is quite weak, so take note if you have much hair to dry. There are also insufficient hooks to hang my clothes and I ended up having to place them over the heater.

Rants Dated interior, mediocre food selections and limited shower cubicles.

Overall Experience As a transit hub and airport, I would expect the SilverKris Lounge London Heathrow to be more polished from its design to the food selections. That said, the good thing is that it is located very close to the SQ boarding gate so you would most likely walk past it anyway to get to your gate. The lounge also beats all the other limited food options in Terminal 2 and is still a decent space especially if you need to charge your phone or catch up on some work.
