Food Review: Miraku Singapore At Icon Village | Japanese Omakase Restaurant In Tanjong Pagar
The Place Located at Icon Village, Miraku is a Japanese Omakase restaurant which was previously located in China Square before it relocated to Icon Village about a year ago. The space of Miraku is zen and minimalist where the counter seats revolve around the open kitchen. It is quite an elegant space which is a stark contrast to the pathway at Icon Village.

The Food Helmed by Head Chef Chon, there are a couple of menus to choose from – Lunch Sushi Course (S$88), Lunch Omakase (S$108), Miraku Sushi Omakase (S$178) for lunch and dinner, and the Miraku Premium Omakase (S$228) dinner course. Sake pairings are also available.

I had the Miraku Premium Omakase (S$228) for dinner and here is what to expect:
3 Types of House Appetizers
I had a trio of delicious appetizers for a start – Shiromi (marinated White fish) tart with sushi rice cracker, Minced fatty tuna with caviar, Wagyu beef croquette with tartar sauce.

2 Types of Seasonal Appetizers
The first seasonal appetizer I had was a cold dish of Aburi hotate (scallop) with Japanese tiger prawn and dashi jelly along with junsai (water shield).

The second seasonal appetiser I had was a fresh Uni with Yuba (beancurd skin) served in a sea urchin shell.

Seasonal Warm Dish
For the warm dish, I had the Hotaru-Ika (firefly squid) with kogomi (fern) and Japanese yam. An interesting way to present the squid which is usually served cold.

2 Types of Sashimi
Freshly sliced Spanish Mackerel and Kinmedai (golden eye snapper) are served next.

Chutoro Egg Yolk Sauce
This is an indulgent course as the fatty chutoro is drizzled with egg yolk soya sauce.

A4 Wagyu Sukiyaki
Not often I come across a sukiyaki course in an Omakase meal in Singapore and hence I was quite excited to have this Wagyu beef sukiyaki using Hokkaido beef from Lake Saroma along with an Onsen egg dip!

7 Types of Sushi
The second half of the meal is the nigiri courses where the Sasanishiki sushi rice here consists of a secret in-house blend of one white and three red vinegars for the shari.

Isaki (Chicken Grunt)

Kuromutsu (Japanese blue fish)

Ishidai (Striped Beakfish)

Sakura Matsu (Hokkaido trout)

Shiro Ebi (White shrimp)

Kamasu (Barracuda)

Toro Maki with Akami, Chutoro and Otoro in Marinated Egg Yolk

Castella-style Tamago

Uni Ikura Bowl
This is a mini Uni ikura bowl which is expectedly indulgent.

Soup
Miso soup is served before dessert.

Dessert
A simple Musk Melon & Strawberry Wine Jelly concludes the meal.

Rants I personally prefer my Shari to be sweeter for the nigiri courses.
Will I Return Again? The premium omakase menu at Miraku offers a good variety of Japanese dishes including a sukiyaki course which I do not come across often. Overall, the lunch Omakase offers a good value if you want to experience an Omakase meal.
This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.
