Hotel Review: Hotel Groove Shinjuku, A Parkroyal Hotel | Good Value GHA Discovery Property In Tokyo

The Hotel I stayed at the Hotel Groove Shinjuku, A Parkroyal Hotel during my Tokyo trip last month after learning that it is part of Parkroyal Hotel and GHA Discovery Group since I want to make use of my Titanium membership perks. The hotel is a fairly new property located in Shinjuku, with a total of 538 rooms. If you are used to taking JR line, note that the property is about 8-10 minutes’ walk to the JR station, as well as department stores like Lumine.

The lobby of Hotel Groove Shinjuku is on level 18 where there are automated check-in machines as well as human assistance. I am not sure how the staff decides who goes to the machine and who goes to the counter.

I was ushered to the machine for an automated check-in, though there was an error message, and I was then ushered to the check-in counter for a manual check-in.

In any case, I was happy to be accorded a two-category upgrade to the Premier Room as a GHA Discovery Titanium member. The lobby also boasts a good city view of Tokyo.  Head over to Trip.com for special deals and promotions!

The Room You need to head to another lift lobby to get to your room, where I was assigned room 3729 on level 37 (level 38 being the highest). The Premier Room I stayed in is a spacious 32-37sqm (344-398 sqft) with an awesome unblocked city view of Tokyo.

The room configuration is quite standard. There is a separate toilet cubicle and bathroom which is great, where you get a spacious bathtub and standing shower zone.

The wardrobe area is an open concept though I would not mind if there are more hangers. There is also a spacious work desk if you need to catch up on some work.

My room comes with two single beds, where the mattress of the bed is reasonably hard to my liking. I also appreciate that there are charging points on both sides of the bed.

The Restaurants Located on level 17, there is restaurant and bar concepts called Jam17 Dining, Jam17 Bar and a takeaway counter Jam17 Gelateria.

The Facilities For a property of this size, I was astonished that there is virtually no facilities, except for a Laundry & Sundry room on level 20 which is quite a joke if you were to ask me,

Rants No swimming pool and gym facilities in the hotel which is a shame.

Overall Experience The best part of my stay is the room which is very comfortable, and the fact that this is a new hotel. In terms of location, it is a distance from JR station if you do not mind the walk. I do appreciate some hotel facilities even if it is a small gym, and to boast a laundry room as your only facility is an amusing proposition.
