Food Scoops: New and Buzzing Singapore Restaurants In September 2024
New Restaurants
Hayop
Part of The Moment Group based in Philippines, Hayop is the newest kid on the block along the buzzing Amoy Street, a fine casual offshoot Filipino restaurant of the highly adored Manam restaurant in Manila. The menu at Hayop takes on familiar Filipino comfort food – both classic and reinvented through a contemporary lens. It combines all-time Manam favourites and new recipes, where the portions are designed for sharing from the selection of bites, mains, vegetables, rice and desserts. Don’t leave without trying the Manam’s Crispy Palabok and Manam’s House Crispy Sisig. [Read more here…]

Club Rangoon
Located in a heritage shophouse along Duxton Road, Club Rangoon is a 39-seater space inspired by Burmese teahouse and it is a concept to showcase modern Burmese cuisine and culture. You will find the key Burmese flavour pillars for the dishes at Club Rangoon — chin (sour), ngan (salty) and sat (spicy). A typical Burmese meal features rice, two to three curries, relishes and condiments including ngapi, the fermented fish or shrimp paste that is similar to belacan, usually served as a dip with a platter of fresh vegetables. Na Oh
One of the most exciting new restaurants in the west this year. Na Oh, which means ‘moving from inside out’ in Korea, is a collaboration between Hyundai Motor Group (the Group) and world-renowned Three-Michelin-Star Chef Corey Lee. The restaurant, located at Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre Singapore (HMGICS), brings a modern touch to traditional Korean cuisine, marking Lee’s debut project in Southeast Asia. Chef Lee’s 4-course prix fixe menu includes the option to choose Jinjitsang, a traditional Korean meal served with various side dishes. The menu will be updated throughout the year, highlighting creative dishes based on Korean fermentation and seasonal ingredients.

Lean & Rich Bakery
A new bakery cafe has not so quietly opened in UE Square. Meet the new Lean & Rich Bakery which is run by a Korean trainer baker who used to front Tartine Bakery in Seoul. The menu is concise with lean offerings (sourdough mainly) and rich offerings (mainly pastries like plain croissants, pistachio pastry, etc). I will be back for its delicious croissants. Acqua e Farina @ Keong Saik
I love Italian food and after a series of new Italian restaurants which opened in the past few months from the likes of Locanda, Fortuna and Casa Vostra, the latest to join the Italian ranks is Acqua e Farina located at the buzzing Keong Saik Road. Acqua e Farina, which means “water and flour” in Italian, was first opened in 2016 at The Rail Mall and is helmed by chefs Antonio Manetto from Naples (South of Italy) and Roberto Galbiati from Milan (North of Italy). The Montanara pizza is a must try, a traditional twice-cooked Neapolitan speciality. [Read more here…]

Birds of A Feather’s New Contemporary Cuisine With Sichuan Influences Menu
Has it been 8 years since the Contemporary Cuisine with Sichuan influence restaurant opened? I had quite a couple of favourites from my recent meal here with its new menu. The Oriental Duck Consommé which uses duck in different ways is a must try, where the ravioli is made from minced duck meat with chicken farce, while the consommé is prepared from duck bones simmered with Hoisin sauce and mirepoix. If you have a group of diners, I highly recommend the Loup De Mer (600-700g) where the seabass is dusted with Sichuan peppercorn and house blends spices, then pan-seared. Of course, don’t leave without having the Wok-Fried Sichuan Style Chicken Popcorn!

Akira Back Presents Akira Back Brunch Club
The new ABC (Akira Back Brunch Club) Brunch menu features a mix of Japanese and Korean dishes where you can expect the likes of unlimited servings of Sashumi and Sushi, classic dish like their signature Tuna & Mushroom Pizza, Korean Mung Bean Pancake, Japanese Oysters, and more! Priced at S$98++ per person and is only available every Saturday lunch hour. Think of it as a sit down curated semi-buffet concept, and the quality is quite good for what we had.

New Look & Chef’s Seasonal Menu At Angie’s Oyster Bar & Grill
If you have been to Tan Boon Liat Building for furniture shopping, you might or might not have noticed Angie’s Oyster Bar & Grill. I had the new Chef’s Seasonal Menu (6-Course) where one of the main course options is the Angie’s Original Fish & Chips! This version serves two types of fish – NZ Wild-caught Halibut and Line-caught Barramundi – where the texture and batter of the fried fish is good. Other courses to expect are the “Blue Tasting Of The Sea” course which features a trio of bitz-sized snacks with the blue theme – Bluefin Tuna on Crispy Rice; Gaelician Blue Prawn on Toasted Sourdough; and Blue Swimmer Crab on Lentil Crisp. Starters to expect include the likes of the Homemade Ricotta & Cranberry Apricot Jam Toast with a 6-hour Fresh Made Ricotta on Toasted Sourdough. The 6-course set menu is priced at S$98++ per person and there is also a 4-course menu at S$78++ per person. Alternatively, you can also opt for ala carte menu.

Seasonal Western Australian Lobster and Sri Lankan Crab Delicacies at Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant
An extensive range of Western Australian Lobster and Sri Lankan Crab cuisines are available from now until 30 September 2024 at Wan Hao, and the Steamed Crab with Preserved Chilli Paste and Chinese Sausage Glutinous Rice is a hit for me. I love that flavourful crab essence and meat atop the delicious glutinous rice. Other dishes to expect include the likes of Braised Lobster with Golden Crab Roe Superior Stock which comes with chunky lobster meat; Stewed Golden Crab Roe, Crab Meat with Bean Curd and Crispy Conpoy; and Deep-Fried Cheese with Lobster Roll.
