Food Review: Le Cheng Hainanese Chicken Rice At Changi Road | Chicken Rice Zichar Near Kembangan With Claypot Chicken Soup

The Place A new casual eatery has opened along Changi Road near Kembangan MRT Station which I visited recently. Le Cheng Hainanese Hainanese Chicken Rice is helmed by Ah Seng, who started his culinary journey back in 1972 with a humble stall serving Hainanese Pork Porridge at Lau Pa Sat and is also behind Gu Zao Ren Taiwan Porridge along Changi Road as well.

The interior of Le Cheng is a no-frills setting where the space is kept bare and simple.

The Food Other than the namesake Chicken Rice, there is a wide range of dishes to complement the chicken, such as other traditional Hainanese dishes like Hainanese Mutton Soup, White Pepper Claypot Chicken Soup, and Salted Braised Duck.

One noteworthy aspect is it uses Kampong Chicken, and you can opt for a chicken rice set or simply go ala carte.

I had the Quarter Kampung Chicken (S$10) along with Chicken Rice. The rice is quite aromatic and is cooked in homemade chicken broth and infused with chicken oil. Add some chilli sauce to the rice which is quite a spicy kick.

The Salted Braised Duck (S$28 half/S$55 whole) is a take on Ah Seng’s Hainanese roots with its tender duck braised in a savoury Hainanese sauce.

I also had the White Pepper Claypot Chicken Soup (S$25/S$45) which features a broth crafted from a secret blend of spices and chicken oil, and you get that robust peppery taste.

There are chunks of chicken meat within, and you can opt to add on other side dishes for S$3 each such as Vermicelli, Enoki Mushroom and Spinach.

Other dishes I had included the likes of the Fried Kang-Kong Belacan and Nan Lu Fried Pork

Rants It can get noisy with the acoustics of the space.

Will I Return Again? If you fancy a chicken rice theme zichar in a no frills setting, Le Cheng is one to check out in the east. Some dishes are quite authentic Hainanese dishes which are not commonly found elsewhere.
