Food Review: Chamoon Hot Pot At Scotts Square | China’s No.1 Clear Soup Individual Hotpot Opens First Overseas Outpost in Singapore
The Place The newest dining concept to open in Scotts Square is Chamoon Hot Pot, China’s No. 1 clear soup individual hotpot. Located on level three of the mall, this is Chamoon Hot Pot first overseas outpost in Singapore with more than 30 outlets in China. The interior of the steamboat restaurant is elegant where each table has its own personalized induction point for your own individual pot.

There is a main dining area, as well as a couple of four private dining rooms seating up to 12 people with a minimum spend.

The Food The brand is known for its healthy and nourishing clear soup hot pots served in individual portions with an USP of prioritising health and nourishment. There are six soup broths to choose from – the signature Truffle Based Matsutake Mushroom, Beauty-Enhancing Papaya Tomato, Singapore-exclusive Mala, True Morel Mushrooms, Bamboo Fungus, and Cordyceps Mushroom, each served as individual portions.

You can opt to go ala carte, or you can go for the Tiger Prawns, Abalone and Premium Beef Set for 2 Pax (Original Price: S$134++/Pax, Member Price: S$149++/Pax) which comes with two soup bases and condiments alongside sharing platters of A4 Japanese Wagyu, Hokkaido Iberico Pork, Tiger Prawns, 5-head Abalones, Salmon Sashimi, Fresh Vegetables, Matsutake Dumplings and accompanying sauces.

The set also includes hot dishes like Truffle Fried Rice along with tea and fruits.

I had the Premium Set and chose the Truffle Based Matsutake Mushroom since this is the brand’s signature. The broth is quite light with a strong hint of mushroom flavour, and it is easy to drink unlike other soup bases like Mala.

In terms of ingredients, the A4 Japanese Wagyu is expectedly tender and fatty if you love Japanese beef.

Seafood lovers will appreciate this set as well since it also comes with huge tiger prawns which the staff will help to deshell, as well as sliced abalone.

As compared to other mainstream hotpot places like Beauty In The Pot, the sauces here are less fancy but you still get condiments like fried garlic, coriander and spring onions to mix with.
The Rantee went for the Beauty-Enhancing Papaya Tomato soup base which has a sweet flavour from the tomatoes, and a caution of note is that the broth is slightly oily, and we had to end up scooping up some of the oil from the broth.

Other than dishes for the hotpot, there are also hot mains on the ala carte menu such as Matsutake Fried Rice and Truffle Fried Rice.
Rants The sauce and condiments selection are not as varied as other hot pot places, and for the set I had, I thought it is better if the fruits are served at the end of the meal, not while I was still having the hot food. Little details to note for the team which goes a long way for a better dining experience for diners.
Will I Return Again? The biggest USP at Chamoon Hot Pot is the individual hotpot idea, and it is also a testament that not every concept from Sichuan is necessarily big on the spicy dishes. It is an upscale dining ambience for steamboat, and I can see that it is also ideal if you need to host people where a big communal hotpot might not be so ideal.
