Food Scoops: Pete’s Place At Grand Hyatt Singapore | Revamped Interior And Menu Of Basement Italian Restaurant Since 1973
What’s Buzzing? With the phase opening of Grand Hyatt Singapore this year, Pete’s Place reopened last month, the basement Italian restaurant in the Hyatt property which dates back to 1973.

What To Expect? A brand new look of Pete’s Place post the hotel’s major overhaul. Expect a warm dining ambience with various seating configurations to suit different party sizes, including a desginated chef’s table and private wine cellar dining room. The signature red brick from the restaurant’s previous look has been retained for a tinge of nostalgia.

The restaurant is helmed by newly-appointed Chef Salvatore Giorgio Catania, hailing from Puglia, Italy. Menu highlights include Costoletta alla Milanese, a tender fried veal cutlet coated in crunchy breadcrumbs, an Antipasti bar to create your own salad, and the signature Negroni Flight.

My meal started with Antipasti dishes like the Vitello Tonnato where cooked sliced veal goes with tuna sauce and capers; Suppli Romani which is potato croquette filled with pecorino cheese and black pepper; and the delicious Piadina Pugliese – pizza flatbread with ricotta cheese, coppa ham and sundried tomatoes.

For pasta, the Risotto Gamberi e Melone is a crowd’s favourite where the arborio risotto with rock melon is topped with fresh, red prawn tartare along crispy cappers.

Meats to expect include the Bistecca alla Griglia, a 1kg Australian bone in rib-eye steak with Tuscany rub along with sautéed broccolini, a glorious meat good to share for a few pax.

Conclude the meal with Pete’s Tiramisu where the chef serves it tableside by scooping each serving off a big plate for a dramatic ending.
