Food Review: Angie’s Oyster Bar & Grill At Tan Boon Liat Building | Revamped Interior And New Chef’s Tasting Menu
The Place Nestled in Tan Boon Liat Building at Havelock MRT Station on the TEL line, Angie’s Oyster Bar & Grill is a hidden gem in Singapore’s vibrant dining scene. The building itself, known for its blend of office and retail spaces, might not scream “destination dining,” but inside, Angie’s is a nice escape with its rustic sheltered outdoor seating and a cozier indoor dining ambience. The interior of the restaurant is a balance between modern elegance and casual comfort, with sleek wooden furnishings and soft lighting.

The layout is spacious, providing a comfortable environment for both intimate dinners and group gatherings.

The Food You can choose from an ala carte menu, or from a newly launched Chef’s Menu (S$98/6 courses or S$78/4 courses). I had the 6-course menu, and my meal started with the Chef’s Special Selection of Oysters, a uniquely dressed and distinct trio of plum-infused horseradish and shiso, passionfruit ponzu and Tsuyataro cucumber and cold pressed olive oil. The oysters are plump and fresh to say the least.

Next up is a Homemade Ricotta & Cranberry Apricot Jam Toast, a delicious toast using a 6-hour Fresh Made Ricotta on Toasted Sourdough.

The ‘Blue Tasting Of The Sea’ course is a weird sounding dish, but it essentially showcases a trip of dishes with the theme blue in its name – Bluefin Tuna on Crispy Rice; Gaelician Blue Prawn on Toasted Sourdough; Blue Swimmer Crab on Lentil Crisp.

A salad course before the main dish where I had Charred Romaine Wedge along with Smoked Atlantic Sardines, Parmesan Polenta Chips, Anchovy Vinaigrette and Hickory Smoked Bacon. This is quite tasty along with the crispy bits of the ingredients together with the greens.

For mains, there are options like Hanwoo F1 Ribeye (150g/supplement of S$18) or Wild Line-Caught Fish & Chips. The succulent beef uses a 200-day grain-fed beef served with a red wine reduction, along with accompaniments of broccolini, potato pavé and a choice of house-made peppercorn or Bordelaise sauce.

Alternatively, I also enjoyed the Wild Line-Caught Fish & Chips which features a duo of NZ Wild-caught Halibut and Line-caught Barramundi in Stout Batter along with Crushed Peas and Jalapeno Tartar Sauce.

For dessert, I had the Strawberry Meringue with Toasted Coconut Gelato.

Rants Other than its unique location and space, I think the flavours of the dishes lack a surprise element overall.
Will I Return Again? Angie’s Oyster Bar & Grill is ideal if you are looking for a convenient spot to catch up with friends in town, yet away from the usual hustle and bustle of the city since it is almost like a standalone restaurant in Tan Boon Liat Building. I like that the indoor and outdoor space exude a different mood depending on what you feel like going for, where the dishes I had were generally not too bad though it was not out of the world either.
