Food Review: Horse’s Mouth At Millenia Walk | New Latin-Asian Gastrobar Identity
The Place Previously tucked away in the basement of Forum the Shopping Mall, some of you might remember Horse’s Mouth (originally founded in 2012) which has reopened at Millenia Walk last month. The new location of Horse’s Mouth is located on level two and the theme has pivoted to a Latin-Asian gastrobar with a more extensive food menu to complement their cocktail program.

While the 31-seater interior is not huge, you can still choose from the bar seats with direct interaction with the bartenders, or there are also regular tables for a proper dine-in and drink session in comfort.

The dining ambience is dim and well-suited for a gastrobar, featuring darkened walls and wood paneling. There is also a curated gallery of eye-catching contemporary art by prominent Filipino artists Jayson Oliveria and Nilo Ilarde.

The Food Other than an extensive cocktail menu, you can also opt for an omakase cocktail experience and have something bespoke. I prefer gin and I asked the bartender to concoct something for me.

For a start, I had The Amber Bloom (S$24) which is a blend of gin with orange, grapefruit, longan, monk fruit and chrysanthemum, something refreshing and easy to drink with fruity notes. All cocktails are priced at S$24.

I started with some Oysters & Sobrassada (S$16 for 3) where the fresh Japanese oysters are topped with salmon roe and served with shots of tomato consommé, made with tosazu – a combination of bonito-infused vinegar and spring onion oil.

Up next was the Ceviche (S$25) where the diced and fresh Japanese yellowtail are served with house-made guacamole and crispy house made sweetcorn kernels.

The best bar bites are the crispy ones. The Pollo Frito (S$17) comes with chunks of chicken thigh coated in a sticky sweet glaze and black vinegar powder, with a side of housemade smoked chilli mayonnaise.

For big plates, I had the Mussels & Gambas Al Ajillo (S$33) where NZ mussels and Japanse prawns are briefly cooked in a piping hot pan, then mixed in a housemade prawn broth of sofrito (blend of tomatoes, onions, peppers) and garlic. Served with slices of toasted sourdough.

The Wagyu Beef Cubes & Curtido Pancake (S$38) remains me of okonomiyaki and here we have pan-seared Kagoshima Wagyu Beef Ribeye A4 cubes and king oyster mushrooms that sit atop a savoury pancake made from curtido – a relish common in Central America made of fermented red cabbage, onion and carrot – and finished with a drizzle of yakiniku sauce and bonito flakes. This is a filing dish if you are looking to have something more substantial, though it was quite greasy as well.

Rants For now, it is not opened on Sundays (hopefully there are plans to!).
Will I Return Again? Horse’s Mouth is a great addition to Millenia Walk which is inundated with mostly Japanese restaurants. It is not the fancy bar like Manhattan or Jigger & Pony, so head here for a casual drink night and easy bar grubs to down with the drinks.
