Food Scoops: New and Buzzing Singapore Restaurants In December 2024

New Restaurants

The House Chungdam
The latest kid on the block on Duxton Road opening this week is The House Chungdam, a new contemporary Korean barbecue dining concept in a shophouse setting. There are two distinct Korean grilling experiences here – a traditional charcoal grill at the bar counter seats for an authentic flavour, or the modern gas-powered iron plate grill at the regular tables. This is also the only Korean restaurant in Singapore offering both methods at the moment, where the grilled Cotesal Boneless Short Rib is delicious. [Read more here for our full review

Oriental Kopi Singapore
Located on level two of Bugis Junction, Oriental Kopi Singapore is the latest food craze in town in the past week. Originally from Malaysia, this is the brand’s first overseas venture where the menu in Singapore is the same as Malaysia. It is an extensive food menu where the brand is known for its award-winning and record-breaking egg tarts, full- bodied Nanyang-style coffee, and authentic Nanyang cuisine. The Oriental Signature Nasi Lemak is our favourite. The newest addition to the buzzing Joo Chiat enclave is Carlitos, a neighbourhood Spanish tapas restaurant by chefs Carlos Montobbio of Esquina and Antonio Miscellaneo of La Bottega, and a collaboration between Ebb & Flow Group and Unlisted Collection. There are over 30 types of tapas from different Spanish cities big and small make up the menu from the price of S$8, each crafted by Chef Carlos based on his favourite memories of tapas bars in Spain. Vitis Wine Bar and Bistro
A new addition to Duo Galleria in Bugis, Vitis Wine Bar and Bistro is the newest dining and drinking concept in town founded by Gary Low, former head sommelier at top restaurants in Singapore like Jaan by Kirk Westaway and Burnt Ends. It touts itself as the first wine bar in the world to solely focus on Asian wines and Asian winemakers. One PSA I feel the need to inform everyone is the awesome Social Hour deal from 5pm to 7pm (weekends included) where you can enjoy selected wines by the glass at S10. This includes the NY Penfolds X Thienot Rose, Champagne, France as well. Selected lights bites are also priced at S$10 each during this time period. [Read more here for our full review

Sensu
Located in the buzzing Keong Saik Road, Sensu is a new contemporary Japanese restaurant which took over the space of what used to be Kagayaki by Ishigaki Yoshida. Sensu is helmed by Chef Shang Jhi, with over a decade of experience in Michelin-starred kitchens like Joel Robuchon, Les Amis, JAAN, and La Dame de Pic. The menu is a mix of tasting menus and ala carte dishes, which is great since it caters to a wider audience. New Menu At Aniba
You might not have noticed the secret entrance to Aniba as you walk along the Singapore River in Raffles Place, where the contemporary Middle Eastern-Mediterranean restaurant is located. With access via a private lift at 6 Battery Road, it is a whole new world as we stepped into Aniba. The new menu at Aniba is an exploration of Middle Eastern-Mediterranean cuisines and flavours with a touch of Asian influences. The menu is fairly straightforward where you choose from the nibbles to the hot and cold dishes. For the beverage program, it is helmed by Edwin Tan who is formerly from Sago House, where the cocktail list is pretty innovative. [Read more here for our full review]

Petit Pain Reopens At Joo Chiat Place
After a short hiatus from its previous location at Joo Chiat Road, one of our favourite bakeries in Singapore Petit Pain has reopened at 17 Joo Chiat Place. It is still the same minimalist shop with no dine-in seats and is purely for takeaways. That said, it is a more extensive array of bakes with new items at the counter such as brioche with hazelnut and financiers to name a few. The pro tip is to head here before its opening hours as most items are sold out fast.
