Food Review: Oriental Kopi Singapore At Bugis Junction | Popular Malaysia Cafe Opens First Overseas Outlet With Paradise Group

The Place Located on level two of Bugis Junction, Oriental Kopi Singapore is the latest food craze in town in the past week. Originally from Malaysia, the brand only started in 2021 and has fast become a household name with 18 outlets, two merchandise kiosks and one merchandise store in Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Selangor. Oriental Kopi Singapore is a joint venture between the brand Paradise Group with the first outlet in Bugis (also the brand’s first overseas venture), and there are plans to open eight outlets in Singapore over the next three years.

The Bugis outlet is a 100-seater restaurant which boasts the same menu as Malaysia, designed in a modern and casual Hainanese-style coffeeshop interior.

The Food It is an extensive food menu where the brand is known for its award-winning and record-breaking egg tarts, full-bodied Nanyang-style coffee, and authentic Nanyang cuisine.

One of my favourite dishes here is the Oriental Signature Nasi Lemak (S$9.50) which comes with Fried Chicken Drumsticks or Thighs, Oriental Egg, Homemade Sambal, and Aromatic Pandan Steamed Rice infused with 8 types of spices. The rice is lemak enough and I also enjoyed the slight sweet sambal sauce which is not overly spicy.

Another signature staple to try is the Oriental Fried Chicken Meat Mee Siam (S$9.50) which is a dry version with no gravy sauce. The other unique part about the mee siam is that it comes with fried chicken too, along with Oriental Egg and Homemade Sambal sauce.

The Double Butter Kaya Toast (Traditional) (S$2.60) is a must have if you love this dish. I conveniently ignored how sinful that thick slab of butter is, and I enjoyed the kaya, butter and crispy golden brown toast combination.

If you love your butter, I am also sure you will enjoy the handmade and freshly based Oriental Polo Bun (S$4.60) which comes with a slab of icy-cold butter and condensed milk. You get a fluffy bun texture with a golden crispy top layer, and this version has also earned a spot in the Malaysia Book of Records for “Most Number of Polo Buns Sold”.

The Oriental Egg Tart (2pcs/S$5.20) comes in a big size portion with a nice custard texture and crispy crust. It is a tall structure with more volume than the typical egg tart shape, which is good for sharing.

For beverages, the eponymous Oriental Kopi (S$2) is a full-bodied Nanyang-style brew made from a “golden ratio” of Arabica, Robusta and Liberica beans. The Kopi O (S$1.80) is quite reasonably priced as well.

For desserts, you can expect the likes of ABC (S$4.50), Malaysia’s name for ice kacang, mango desserts (from S$5.50) as well as Oriental Tong Shui such as Snow Swallow with Peach Gum Dessert (S$4.50, available hot and cold).

Rants Be prepared to queue up to 30 minutes at least during peak mealtimes. No reservations are taken for now.

Will I Return Again? A great addition to the Singapore dining scene since Oriental Kopi is already quite popular amongst Singaporeans, and especially in such a central and accessible location like Bugis Junction. You can now satisfy your Nanyang food cravings at the Singapore outlet, where prices are fairly reasonable.
