Food Review: Lo Hey HK Seafood At One Holland Village | Retro Hong Kong Theme Seafood Zi Char Restaurant
The Place Inspired by the golden age of Hong Kong cinema between the 1980s and 1990s, Lo Hey HK Seafood is a new Chinese restaurant at the buzzing One Holland Village by the same team behind Hey Kee. Located on level three of the mall, the Hong Kong theme is strong at Lo Hey where you can expect neon lights, jade tiles and live seafood in tanks, and it blends with the essence of the old Hong Kong scenes with a cinematic flair.

The dining ambience exudes a retro vibe and you can expect large round tables and plush red chairs, along with a pet-friendly alfresco dining area.

The Food While live seafood dishes are the highlight at Lo Hey, there are also other interesting items such as the Lo Hey Tossed Chicken Salad (S$22.80). This is a Shunde-style dish of tender chicken accompanied by a refreshing vinaigrette that ties together crisp cucumber, fragrant ginger, and crunchy carrot.

The colourful and refreshing plate also comes with thinly sliced leek and red pepper along with deep-fried taro, peanuts and coriander.

For soup, I had the nourishing Hami Melon Sea Conch Chicken Soup (S$58, good to share for 4-5 pax) which is prepared over one day and simmered for six hours. It has a nice natural sweetness of the fresh Xinjiang Hami melon, along with dried conch, scallops, pork ribs, and ginseng.

On to the seafood, I love the Deep Fried Soon Hock with Soy Sauce (From S$10 per 100g) where fried fish is served with a beautiful golden-brown texture. Despite being fried, I could still taste the freshness of the fish.

The other dish not to be missed is the Braised Lobster with Vermicelli (S$16.80 per 100g) where you can expect fresh chunky lobster tossed with the moist vermicelli which soaks up the seafood goodness.

For greens, I had the Sizzling French Beans with Shrimp Sauce (S$16.80) served in a hot claypot.

Finally, my meal ended with the Homemade Almond Paste with Sweet Potato (S$6.80) which is not too sweet.

Rants The decor could come across as either tacky or fun. Thankfully, the food sticks to good flavours.
Will I Return Again? Overall, the flavours of the dishes I had at Lo Hey are robust and there is a good variety of dishes to order, ideal for small or big groups. The retro HK decor also adds to the strong theme, and I think this is a good addition to One Holland Village.
