Hotel Review: Convent Square Lisbon, Vignette Collection, An IHG Hotel | Excellent Location In The Heart Of Lisbon Old Town

The Hotel During my recent trip to Lisbon, Portugal, I stayed at Convent Square Lisbon, Vignette Collection, an IHG Hotel. The property is nestled in Lisbon’s Baixa neighbourhood, a prime location located in the heart of the old town with the nearest Metro Station Rossio which is a mere 2 minutes’ walk away. Convent Square Lisbon is in fact housed in an old 13th-century Dominican convent, and I get that sense of old charm and modern luxury when I stepped in. The hotel is within walking distance of many iconic attractions, such as Rossio Square and Alfama.

This is a relatively new luxury property which only opened in 2023.

The centrepiece of the property is the peaceful central courtyard and as I walked through the lobby to explore around, there are some starking architectural elements such as the vaulted ceilings and stonework.

I arrived at around 1pm and was told by the staff that my room was not ready yet since the official check in time is 3pm. I was slightly disappointed as an IHG Platinum Elite member. In any case, I left my contact number and the staff did message me to inform me my room was ready past 2pm.

The Room I checked into the King Premium Room (24-28 sqm) at room 309. It is relatively spacious and contemporary in design, equipped with all the modern amenities.

My favourite part of the room are the fold windows with a beautiful arch shape where natural light streams through in the day.

That said, there could have been more charging points in the room, and I also could do with a mattress which is harder.

The bathroom comes with a standing shower zone, and I find the placement of walk-in shower door awkward, as it is merely 1cm from the sink.

The Facilities As the property is not that huge, the main facilities are on level five, and it features a small gym, sauna, and indoor plunge pool.

I was half expecting the indoor plunge pool to be heated but it is not.

The Restaurants The main dining concept is Capítulo which offers Portuguese cuisine in a beautiful setting with the original vaulted ceilings and large white marble columns of the convent.

I managed to grab a drink at the rustic-chic Capítulo Bar right beside Capítulo.

Adjacent to the bar, Capítulo Lounge offers a casual atmosphere where you can sink into plush armchairs amidst floor-to-ceiling windows and enjoy all-day tapas, fine wines and cocktails, and live music.

Rants The layout of the bathroom in the room could have been better designed, and the gym is also way too small with limited equipment. I also find the service a tad rigid where late check out was not entertained for me despite my IHG Platinum Elite status. In addition, I was not informed of the daily tea ritual for all guests during my check-in as well, which I only found out subsequently from another guest.

Overall Experience The excellent location is the main draw for staying at this property for me. The facilities are quite muted, and the service of some staff are rigid and lack personal touches.
