Food Review: Siong Tong Gai At 313@Somerset | Renowned Malaysian Seafood Restaurant Opens In Singapore
The Place Founded in 2008, Siong Tong Gai (which translates to 上汤街 in Chinese) is a seafood institution with 11 outlets across Malaysia where its first outlet in Singapore opened at 313@somerset. The brand is known for its fresh fish and seafood, where it also showcases eight of its top KL zichar crab flavours such as Signature Spicy Sauce Crab, ‘Kum Hiong’ Style Stir Fried Crab and Salted Egg Yolk Crab.

The interior of Siong Tong Gai at 313@somerset is a big dining hall design with a few private dining rooms. It also showcases the fresh seafood in the fish tanks.

The Food The menu is an extensive selection of seafood, and I started with the Kum Hiong Clams (S$14.80), a flavoruful and generous portion of clams which make a great starter.

The Dry Salted Egg Sotong (S$19.80) is my favourite dish. Very nice crispy texture of the squid here and the salted egg coating is simply addictive.

Prawn lovers will easily resonate with the Fried Prawns with Soy Sauce (S$29). I am not a die-hard prawn person but this dish is easy to enjoy as the prawns are quite big and you get that rich flavour of the soy sauce as well.

A simple vegetable dish to balance the dishes above is the 3 Treasure Vegetable (S$12.80).

For salted egg lovers, the Salted Egg Yolk Crab (S$63.80) should be a crowd pleaser as it comes drizzled with generous salted egg yolk sauce.
There is an ongoing 50% promotion price for the crabs until 16 January at S$31.90 (original price S$63.80) for any flavours.

Comparatively, I enjoyed the ‘Kum Hiong’ Style Stir Fried Crab (S$63.80) more, as the flavours are richer yet less cloying as compared to the salted egg yolk crab.

Rants Location wise, the restaurant feels a little out of place in 313somerset given the mix of shops and demographics of the mall.
Will I Return Again? The food at Siong Tiong Gai is best enjoyed with a group of people. The seafood I had are fresh and the prices are fairly reasonable by seafood restaurant standards.
