Food Review: Mizue Cafe & Wine Bar At Club Street | Cafe By Day, Wine Bar By Night

The Place Located in Club Street, Mizue Cafe & Wine Bar is a relatively new restaurant and wine bar concept which took over what used to be Club Street Wine Room. The name Mizue embodies fluidity and balance, drawing on the Japanese philosophy of “wa” (harmony) in both design and experience. By day, it is a café concept and at night it transforms into a lively, urban bar.

The Food Mizue focuses on Italian flavours with Japanese touches. I visited for dinner and how the menu works is that you can select 5 dishes for S$65, 7 dishes for S$75 and 9 dishes for S$95 to create your own tasting menu where everyone on the table has to select the same menu. Alternatively, you can also go by ala carte orders.

I had the 5 dishes for S$65 set menu and started with the Corn & Miso Croquette which is filled with Mozzarella Cheese.

Up next I had the Whipped Burrata where the fresh cheese is interestingly paired with Honey Frozen Momotaro Tomato, so you get that nice contrast of the burrata along with the coldness of the tomatoes. It is finished with the Yuzu Oil and Citrus Vinegar.

On to mains, I had the Pappardelle Kombu Beef Ragu with Beef Cheek Ragu, Kombu, Parmesan and Togarashi. Expect an al dente texture for the Pappardelle.

Comparatively, the Kabocha Pumpkin Tortelli with Pumpkin Seeds, Brown Butter and Pine Nuts fared better for me as opposed to the Pappardelle. I love the combination of pumpkin and brown butter here which is very well-balanced. As expected, the texture of the Tortelli is quite al dente too.

For desserts, I had the Triple Fromage made of Parmesan, Mascarpone and Cream Cheese Sponge.

In terms of beverages, there is a comprehensive list of cocktails, sakes and wines to choose from, along with happy hours in the evening and after 9pm where certain drinks like house wines go at S$10 nett.

Rants The portions of the dishes are generally quite small.

Will I Return Again? Mizue is a nice spot to check out after work for a good night cap, or a casual date night where you prefer a more vibrant dining ambience. The space exudes a cosy and polished wine bar vibes coupled with a strong food menu in terms of selection.
