Food Review: Khaan Thai Fine Dining Restaurant Bangkok | Michelin-Worthy Meal Near Chit Lom BTS

The Place I checked out a relatively new Thai fine-dining restaurant in my recent trip, Khaan Thai Fine Dining Restaurant Bangkok. Located in Lumphini within walking distance from Chit Lom BTS Station, Khaan is helmed by Chef Sujira ‘Aom’ Pongmorn, where Khaan means both “tiger” and “proclaim” in Thai.

The restaurant’s space is a standalone two storey house where the dining interior is elegant with deep red hues on the walls. Khaan is also a Michelin Guide Restaurant despite being opened for only a year, where Chef Aom used to be from the One Michelin starred Saawaan.

The concept of Khaan is to elevate Thai street food to fine dining, where local ingredients are used wherever possible and it also reflects the cuisine in different parts of Thailand.

The Food Go for the tasting menu, where you can opt for wine or tea pairing. I had the 11-course Tasting Menu (3,850 THB++) and here is what to expect:

My meal started with a series of Amuse Bouche – Steamed egg with crab yellow curry and khaffir lime powder; Fermented mung beans noodles with peanut sauce; Thai traditional dessert (Uni, Khao soi sauce; macadamia nut); Stem lettuce inspired

Andaman Tiger Prawn | Homemade Pickled Lime | Tomalley cracker
Fresh local prawn for a start where homemade pickled lime with chilli is infused in the broth poured over the prawn.

Rice Paddy Crab | Sticky rice
This course is best enjoyed using hands, where the rice paddy crab is cooked with curry paste to have along with the sticky rice.

Fermented Sang Yod Rice | Dry Aged Turnip | Thai Borage
This is poured with a sauce which is slightly spicy and sour.

Barron Point Oyster | Surat Thani oyster | Lacto-fermentation King Oyster Mushroom
Oysters are presented in different forms here. A plump Barron Point Oyster along with an oyster foam made from local Surat Thani oyster served in a clear broth.

Palate Cleanser
A refreshing palate cleanser made of watermelon in different foams – jelly, sundried, granita and fresh water lemon.

Seasonal catch by local fisherman | Shrubby basil | Spicy Thai bisque
Love the fresh flavours of the fish here, and that Thai bisque sauce is rich enough for my liking.

Khao Yai Duck | Paka-Um-Pun rice | Five spice curry
One of my favourite courses on the menu, this delicious and tender local duck comes with a nice crisp skin and goes really well with the accompanying curry sauce. Best to have it all with the rice!

Pre-Dessert
I was treated to this pre-dessert which uses Phuket pineapple along with some basil oil.

Seasonal Ripe Mango | Forget husband Sticky Rice | Mung bean

Petit Fours

Rants The level one dining space is relatively quiet with just a few tables, and it is easy to accidentally overhear other people’s conversations if you are slightly loud.

Will I Return Again? I enjoyed my meal at Khaan and having dined at other Thai fine dining restaurants previously such as Baan Tepa and Sorn, this is definitely one new restaurant to look out for in Bangkok’s culinary scene. Service is friendly and the price is still relatively reasonable for an 11-course meal for now if you want to explore a fine dining meal in the heart of the city.

Will this be the next Michelin Star restaurant in Bangkok?
