The Black Pearl
An exciting new Chinese restaurant has opened quietly in Cityhall. Launched by Gaia Lifestyle Group, I checked out the newly opened The Black Pearl, a one-of-a-kind rooftop Chinese fine dining concept. Located on level 7 of Odeon 333, it takes up the entire floor of level 7 where the interior is gorgeous to say the least. In terms of cuisine, The Black Pearl has its own take on ‘Yue’ cuisine (粤菜), as the dishes here encompass the flavours of the Greater Canton region. Various Cantonese sub-cuisines fall within this realm, most famously that of Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Chaoshan, Dongjiang, and Shunde. [Read more here for our full review]

Mare Hachikyo Singapore
Located at Palais Renaissance Orchard which took over the space of Sushi Kimura, Mare Hachikyo Singapore is a new Japanese restaurant which hails from Sapporo, Hokkaido, where this is the brand’s first overseas outpost. The name Mare means ‘rare’ in Japanese, and the interior of the restaurant is a contemporary and zen ambience with various tones of wood. 90% of the ingredients are sourced directly from Hokkaido where the menu is refreshed every six weeks to reflect the freshest ingredients in the season. The menu is Japanese kappo-style omakase cuisine. [Read more here for our full review]

The 42-seater café at Raffles City serves a crafted menu of Blue Bottle Coffee’s signature blends and espresso-based beverages. To complement the beverages, Blue Bottle Coffee has partnered with Bakery Brera, an established

Casa Cicheti
Italian food is easily one of Singaporean’s favourite cuisines and it is evident from my visit to Casa Cicheti on a weekday evening. Located in the charming estate of Tiong Bahru at the now-defunct PS Cafe Petit’s former home of over a decade, Casa Cicheti is The Cicheti Group’s answer to a traditional Italian trattoria which literally means “Little House” in Italian. The ala carte menu is a selection of antipasti, pizza, pasta, secondi and dessert. [Read more here for our full review]

Maggie’s
One of the newest kids on the block along Keong Saik Road, Maggie’s took over the space of the now-defunct Hevel and it is also by the same team behind Marcy’s. The interior of the restaurant was transformed totally into a quintessential retro Chinese vibe, where I spotted flaying dragon, antique vases, China table wares, and more. Maggie’s is a bold and offbeat take on regional Chinese flavours which are reimagined, and honestly nothing like what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant. It coined itself as ‘An Almost Chinese’ bistro that plays by no one’s rules. [Read more here for our full review]

Ka-Mon
Located beside the newly opened Spanish fine-dining restaurant Sugarra, Ka-Mon is a new casual Japanese restaurant by Resorts World Sentosa in Hotel Michael helmed by Chef Hal Yamashita. It focuses on three traditional Japanese grilling techniques – Irori (sunken hearth), Robatayaki (fireside cooking), and Warayaki (straw-fired grilling), where the dishes here is a take on “New Japanese” cuisine where you can expect modern twists to Japanese ingredients from an ala carte menu.

Moment Restaurant
Located at the buzzing Amoy Street, Moment Restaurant is a relatively a new dining concept a few doors down from pasta bar Scarpetta which offers a refined take on Western-Japanese cuisine, complemented by premium Hinemos sakes from Kanagawa. The interior of Moment Restaurant is a narrow shophouse layout with limited table seats and open concept counter seats with a view of the kitchen. The restaurant is run by a Japanese team and while the primary concept is to showcase their Hinemos sake, the team wanted a Western-Japanese food menu to complement the sake. This quaint modern steakhouse in the CBD spots a refreshed menu and the 25 Days Dry-Aged Meadesmoore Cut from Australia is a good tender cut which is suited for those who prefer a beefier taste as opposed to the fattier wagyu cuts. There are three distinct flavour profiles here as it is presented with a trio of underblade cut, ribeye cap and loin. There is also the newly introduced Turbot Fillet from France’s Atlantic served with a buttery roasted bone jus and Arbequina extra virgin olive.
