Food Review: Mensho Tokyo SG At Raffles City Singapore | Inventive Ramen Flavours By Chef Tomoharu Shono
The Place Opened late last year in Raffles City Singapore, Mensho Tokyo SG is the brand’s first Singapore outpost in Cityhall and it brings along a sophisticated twist to the local ramen scene. This is the brand’s partnership with local F&B group Surrey Hills Holdings, and it is located right next to Surrey Hills Grocer and hotpot concept Bon Broth by Chef Andre Chiang.

Helmed by acclaimed chef Tomoharu Shono, the restaurant offers a fusion of traditional Japanese techniques and inventive flavors. It is a spacious setting for Mensho Tokyo SG’s location at Raffles City, as the restaurant’s interior reflects Japanese minimalism, featuring timber wood walls, wooden furnishings, and a warm color palette.

The Food With an extensive menu which offers a diverse selection of ramen flavours complemented by a series of side dishes, I had to try the Signature Toripaitan (S$28) ramen since it was my first visit. This is a rich and creamy chicken broth complemented by A5 wagyu, smoked pork, duck, and chicken chashu.

Toppings include king oyster mushroom, truffle sauce, ajitama egg, and fried burdock root. It is quite a luxurious and satisfying ramen and if you like creamy ramen broth, this is the one to go for.

I also had the Yuzu Shio (S$17) which is a much lighter option as compared to the Signature Toripaitan. The yuzu broth is light and easy to drink, and it comes with fried garlic, negi, kalamansi, tomato chashu, kinoko menma, shiso cress and red onion.

Other interesting ramen options on the menu include the likes of locally inspired Chilli Crab Ramen (S$28) and A5 Wagyu Shoyu Aburasoba Ramen (S$41). The restaurant also introduced new ramen flavours recently such as the Spicy Toripaitan Ramen (S$23).
In terms of side dishes, I had the 4 Kinds of Chashu (S$15) which comes with an assortment of French “Magret” duck, smoked pork, chicken and A5 wagyu. Good variety of proteins to try if you are cutting down on carbs.

Newly launched side dishes on the menu also include the Beef Tongue Teppanyaki (S$16) which is seasoned with salt and pepper and spring onion on a hotplate; and the Hotate Teppanyaki (S$12) – seared Japanese scallops with butter, in-house tare and spring onion on a hotplate.

I am also surprised to find sushi options on the menu, where I went for the A5 Wagyu Sushi with Uni (S$16/2 pieces). The sushi here is made with Nanatsuboshi rice and served with organic kioke shoyu. Nothing too memorable for the sushi, I would say stick to the ramen and teppanyaki side dishes.

For dessert, I tried the Houjicha Tiramisu (S$8.80) which spots a creamy texture with a good balance of hojicha flavour.

Rants S$28 for the Signature Toripaitan is on the steeper end of the spectrum for ramen in Singapore.
Will I Return Again? Mensho Tokyo offers a refined and innovative ramen experience in Singapore. It appeals to diners who are seeking a more unique ramen experience in terms of flavour, and probably not for the traditionalists. It is very conveniently located in Cityhall if you are looking for a comfortable and casual dining option in Raffles City.
