Food Review: Feng Sheng Kampong Chicken Rice & Steamboat (East Coast) | 24 Hours Dining In The East

The Place Located at East Coast Road, the newly opened Feng Sheng Kampong Chicken Rice & Steamboat (East Coast) is a 24-hour chicken rice and steamboat restaurant. This is the brand’s second outlet since opening their first at 4 Short Street in 2023. Feng Sheng at East Coast Road features both indoor and outdoor seating, accommodating up to 72 guests.

The space of the new outlet takes on a Singapore Nanyang kopitiam-style, with wooden dining furniture, marble-esque tables and vintage posters on the wall. For big groups, there is also a private dining room for up to 10 guests. The outdoor dining space is pet friendly as well.

As a tribute to Singapore’s nation-building generations, Feng Sheng is offering a 10% discount to all Pioneer and Merdeka Generation members. In addition, it also extends a special Private Hire Vehicle (PHV) privilege at the East Coast Road outlet where the PHV privilege offers free-flow rice refills and a complimentary drink with any purchase of a plate of chicken rice.

The Food Feng Sheng sets itself apart as Singapore’s only 24-hour restaurant that offers both chicken rice and steamboat, in addition to local claypot dishes and traditional breakfast options such as kaya toast. There are also noodle and claypot dishes, in addition to side dishes like Chicken Satay (S$12).

The Classic Steamboat Set (S$58.80) comes with a generous spread of ingredients including pork belly (kurobuta), fresh lala clams, abalone, green mussels, fresh prawns, enoki mushroom and fried beancurd roll and more.

You can choose from five different soup bases – Chicken, Herbal, Tom Yum, Mala and the new Pork Stomach Chicken Soup. I had the herbal soup base which is quite pleasant to drink.

The Steamboat Combo ($$68.6/2 pax) I had comes with quarter chicken and two rice. The chicken meat is quite tender, and it is nice that it features both old-school steamed and roasted Sakura Free-Range Chicken. It is also topped with crispy garlic bits.

There is also the claypot series on the menu where I had the Claypot Lala (S$22) which comes with a sweet broth from the generous portion of Lala.

For sides, the Imperial Beef Ball Soup (S$12.9) is a good alternative if you are not planning to have steamboat as it is a good portion of soup to share for 2-3 pax.

The Truffle Minced Pork Tofu (S$16) is also worth a try as it is topped with bonito flakes.

Rants It could be challenging trying to get the attention of the service staff at times, be it to refill the soup broth or to clear the empty plates on the table.

Will I Return Again? 24 hours dining option is always a good idea. The menu is extensive at Feng Sheng where the quality of the steamboat and dishes are quite decent, and there is bound to be something for everyone even if you are not planning to have steamboat.
