Hotel Review: Grand Hyatt Singapore At Orchard Road | How Does It Look After A Massive Revamp?

The Hotel I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Grand Hyatt Singapore, and overall, it was a sophisticated and well-rounded experience. Located just off Orchard Road, the hotel enjoys an unbeatable location for both shopping and business travelers.

The other reason I am keen to check out the Hyatt property is because it completed an extensive renovation last year, with refurbishments from its lobby to its dining concepts and hotel rooms. The hotel’s interior design balances modern luxury with understated elegance, and the recent renovations are noticeable, particularly in the guest rooms.

I like the new sleek look of the lobby, where the check-in counters are designed in an open concept format.

I also appreciate that there are ample tables and chairs with power points for guests to use, or to catch up on some work.

The Room I checked into the King Bed Room and at 452 sq ft, it is very spacious.

The room is well-appointed with thoughtful amenities such as 65-inch Smart LED TV with casting capabilities, including a plush bed, large work desk, and a sleek, marble-clad bathroom.

One interesting design of this room is also the placement of the window, which surrounds a nook for guests to chill. I think it is a good design around the awkward placement of the windows, and it also helps to create a resort-ish vibe in the room. Imagine sipping coffee and just relaxing in this cosy corner.

I love the walk-in wardrobe area which connects seamlessly with the en suite bathroom, which comes with dual-sink vanity and rain shower. The toilet bowl also uses Japanese technology so you get all the automated water features instead of a bidet. In terms of branding, it uses Balmain bath amenities.

Other notable features include automated full blackout blinds, illy coffee machine and tea-making facility and an in-room safe with the ability to store a laptop within.

I love hotels which design a master switch to switch off all the lights at one go, and there is something nice and dim about the room’s lighting which makes it very conducive to rest. I am also happy to report that the mattress of the bed is hard enough for my liking and comfort.

The Facilities One of the main highlights for me is Damai Spa, where the name Damai means “peace” in Malay.

Even if you are not booked on a spa treatment, you can still have access to the spa facilities such as hot and cold plunge pools, steam rooms, saunas, and a hydrotherapy pool.

The changing room is spacious and minimalist in design with an understated elegance. There are plenty of towels and water cooler as well to hydrate yourself.

Damai Spa is also integrated with the Fitness Centre which is easily one of the best hotel gyms I have come across in Singapore. There is a varied mix of cardio machines and bench presses featuring the Technogym® Wellness System.

For swimmers, there are two Pools – a wellness pool which is new post renovation of the hotel, and a conventional pool for some serious laps.

To get to the pool, head past Damai Spa towards Oasis.

I love the wellness pool zone which feels like a nice retreat from the hustle and bustle of Orchard Road as the pool is surrounded by lush greenery.

There are also nice ‘tents’ to retreat into and hide from the sun if need be. Jacuzzi facilities are also present at the wellness pool.

The Restaurants There are multiple dining concepts in the hotel, each distinct on its own.

StraitsKitchen is the halal-certified buffet restaurant where the buffet breakfast takes place.

It is very much a local concept where you can expect many local delights for breakfast buffet such as Nasi Lemak, Roti Prata, Noodle Soup, and more.

International options are also available such as an egg station, an assortment of pastries, fresh juices which include freshly pressed orange juice machine.

It is also nice that the whole layout of the restaurant is in an open kitchen format where diners can witness the preparation of their meals. In terms of seating, there are also many different seating zones within the restaurant to suit different group sizes.

Another dining concept worth highlighting is Le Pristine Singapore which opened late last year, replacing the space of what used to be Mezza9. Le Pristine Singapore is a collaboration with Michelin-starred Chef Sergio Herman and offers a contemporary take to classic European cuisine, infused with Chef Herman’s Zeeland culinary heritage.

For Italian food lovers, there is also Pete’s Place which has been around since 1973. The revamped space boasts a new private dining room, grand wine cellar, and chef’s table offering kitchen-to-tableside service.

If you walked to the pool area, you can’t miss Oasis, a poolside restaurant which features thematic event concepts and a separate bar serving cocktails on tap. Guests can enjoy BBQ Night Sharing Platters and an alcohol package in a relaxed, outdoor or indoor setting.

For one of the best drink spots in Orchard Road, I love Martini Bar for its Happy Hour deals. The glass-enclosed space is chic and is a great spot for after-work drinks or gatherings. The revamped venue offers a selection of martinis and other classic cocktails.

Located at the lobby is also The Shop, which is a small gourmet hub offering freshly baked goods, barista-crafted coffee, and sustainable products from the Grand Marketplace.

Rants The water pressure of the shower is not that strong, and the temperature control of the water takes a while to reflect the adjusted temperature.

Overall Experience The location of Grand Hyatt Singapore is quite unbeatable, especially since it is in the heart of Orchard Road and easily connected to Orchard MRT Station. It is a polished and comfortable stay for me where the hotel delivers on service and comfort, and of course, location. It is very ideal for both business and leisure travelers.
