Food Review: The Tea Room At The St. Regis Singapore | New Afternoon Tea Space & Experience In Singapore

The Place There has been quite a couple of updates to The St. Regis Singapore in terms of the updates to their rooms currently, a revamped Astor Grill, and the latest is the newly redesigned Tea Room. Located at the lobby right beside Astor Grill, the new space of Tea Room is much more inviting than what I remember it to be as it is less dim for one.

A brief background is that this was first introduced in the 19th-Century by Mrs. Caroline Astor at The St. Regis New York, and since then the afternoon tea ritual is a tradition across all St. Regis Hotels globally, with each property offering its own interpretation.

It is a cosy space, not too many tables, and comfortable enough for a couple or small group to chill in their own space. When I visited on a Saturday afternoon, there is also soothing live instrumental music.

The Food The Tea Room’s new Summer Garden Afternoon Tea (S$65 per person) ritual begins with a glass of Copenhagen sparkling tea and choice of coffee or tea, brewed tableside by a tea sommelier.

The tea trolley comes along, and you can pick from the range of Taylors of Harrogate specialty teas or TWG teas. There is also The St. Regis Singapore Blend tea specially curated by TWG. If you prefer coffee, you will be pleased that it uses Indonesian specialty coffee brand Tanamera Coffee.

The first part of the experience is where the savouries are being presented in a wooden box – Foie Gras Terrine, Shortbread, Raspberry Caviar; St. Regis Tea-Infused Salmon Mosaic, Cream Cheese, Mango Pearls; Goat Cheese Tart, Elderflower, Chervil (V); Cucumber & Tomato Hummus Sandwich (V); and Prawn Mousse, Beetroot Cone, Avruga.

Sweet treats are served next in a classic three-tiered stand, alongside freshly baked scones including Lemon scone. If you love scones, these are unlimited in servings.

The spreads for the scones which come along are also quite elaborate as there are four types of artisanal jams and clotted cream to enjoy alongside the scones.

On the three-tier stand, you can expect the likes of Pear & Chocolate Vanilla; Pistachio Financier Cake; Jasmine Citrus Mousse; Tropical Garden Tartlet with almond sable; Vanilla Macaron and Lime Caramel Praline.

Rants I would not mind if there are more savoury items for the afternoon tea, or if each guest can choose up to two types of tea or coffee.

Will I Return Again? If you like a cosy and elegant living room dining ambience for afternoon tea, the Tea Room is worth checking out. I think the tea and coffee selection is good given the variety to choose from, and quality of the savoury and sweet items are quite decent.
