Food Review: Gwangjang Gaon At Jewel Changi Airport | Casual Korean Restaurant By Renowned Culinary Professor Hyo Soon Park
The Place Newly opened in Jewel Changi Airport is Gwangjang Gaon, opened by Korean culinary Professor Hyo Soon Park. This is the first overseas outpost in Singapore, where the casual 52-seater Korean restaurant is located on level two of the mall with an outdoor terrace view of the vortex rain.

Known in Korea as Gwangjangdong Gaon in Korea after the street it is located on, Gwangjang Gaon is the brainchild of traditional cuisine researcher, Professor Hyo Soon Park who has a rich background in traditional Korean cooking.

The Food My meal started with the Deulgireum Makguksu (S$21.90), a cold buckwheat noodle dish drizzled with aromatic perilla oil topped with crunchy perilla seeds.

“Jeon” refers to a variety of pan-fried savoury dishes, and the Modm-Jeon (S$29.90) platter I had features golden bites of shrimp, pollack, zucchini, ground pork, and crab surimi, all pan-fried and served with a tangy soy-vinegar dipping sauce. Initially I thought it will be crisp in texture, but it did not turn out to be so, which I probably had the wrong expectations of this dish. It is a big platter, and I recommend sharing it with 3-4 pax as it can also get quite greasy.

For meats, I tried one of the staples in Korean cuisine, Bossam (S$43.90). The pork belly here is boiled and simmered for hours, and served alongside cabbage and homemade kimchi, accompanied by traditional condiments such as the saeujeot (fermented shrimp sauce).

For carbs, I had the Classic Bibimbap (S$22.90) which features more than 13 ingredients including meat, mixed vegetables and a spicy sauce with a choice of red pepper paste, soybean paste, or a blend of both.

Rants Based on what I had, the flavours are decent, but no one dish really stands out for me.
Will I Return Again? If you are looking for a casual Korean dining concept in Jewel, here is one. Prices are fairly reasonable for the portions, where the dishes are familiar Korean flavours done in a more homecooked style.
