Food Review: Torno Subito At Dempsey | Fine-Casual Italian Restaurant By Michelin Starred Chef Massimo Bottura
The Place Located at the buzzing Dempsey, Torno Subito is an Italian restaurant by renowned chef Massimo Bottura of the three-Michelin-starred Osteria Francescana. Unlike the fine-dining concept of Osteria Francescana, Torno Subito is a fine-casual concept and with a playful interior designed by award-winning Italian designer Paola Navone of OTTO Studio.

The restaurant’s interior is inspired by the idyllic summer holidays by the seaside and it is evident by the classy use of colours in its space from the main dining hall to the bathroom.

The Food Led by Executive Chef Alessio Pirozzi, there is a refreshed menu introduced with flavours inspired by Emilia-Romagna. There is also a Three-Course Formula Lunch weekday set menu at at S$68++ per person available from Wednesday to Friday where diners can build their own experience by selecting from a selection of antipasti, mains and desserts.

For dinner, you can go for the tasting menu or opt from the ala carte selections.
I started with the Tiger and Beer (S$33) which pays tribute to the Italian Riviera’s summer classics and seaside kiosks by pairing crispy deep-fried tiger prawns with a “Nazionale” craft beer mayonnaise.

For pasta, the Tortellino (S$46) is a creamy option made of Modenese miniature stuffed pasta in a creamy 36-month aged Parmigiano Reggiano sauce.

I also tried the Tagliatelle (S$48), a traditional egg pasta which is Massimo Bottura’s personal favourite with hand-chopped Wagyu ragù.

Under Secondi, the previously tasting menu-only Modena Ribs (S$68) is now available à la carte. This crowd-pleaser features slow-cooked Wagyu beef ribs served with a seasonal vegetable sauce and a drizzle of Villa Manodori dark cherry vinegar, which is an homage to the rich culinary roots of Emilia-Romagna.

From the pizza selection, I highly recommend the Made in Sicily (S$40/S$62) which is a deep-fried dough pizza topped with pistachio sauce, Mazara del Vallo red prawn tartare, stracciatella and lemon sauce.

For desserts, expect the likes of Te’ E Cioccolato (S$20) – chocolate ganache, orange blossom foam and earl grey ice cream; or opt for something simple like their homemade Gelato (S$12) with flavours like hazelnut and Madagascar vanilla.

Rants The prices here are above average for Italian restaurant in Singapore.
Will I Return Again? A beautiful space in Dempsey where you can get a taste of the style and flavours of chef Massimo Bottura in Singapore. I think it is great that you can choose between a fixed menu and ala carte options which add to the flexibility for diners.
