Food Review: Gwanghwamun Mijin Singapore At Far East Square | Korean Michelin Bib Gourmand Buckwheat Noodles Restaurant
The Place If you work in the CBD and love Korean food, then the newly opened Gwanghwamun Mijin Singapore should be on your radar. Located in the heart of CBD at Far East Square, Gwanghwamun Mijin Singapore spots a minimalist interior with wood accents and a clean, contemporary design. It is a 90-seater space with both indoor and outdoor seating where the restaurant focuses on cold buckwheat noodles.
A brief history about Gwanghwamun Mijin is that it is a 70-year-old Korean restaurant from Seoul which has earned the Michelin Bib Gourmand award every year since 2018. This is also the brand’s first international debut in Singapore.
The Food Mijin’s signature dish features al dente buckwheat noodles served in lacquered trays, paired with a chilled seafood-based dipping broth made from 14 natural ingredients like katsuobushi, dried anchovies, and ginger. Both the noodles and broth are flown in directly from Korea to preserve authenticity.
This is the star of the restaurant. The Signature Buckwheat Noodles (S$15) spots an al dentex texture and I like that you can customize the dipping broth served in a kettle according to your liking with condiments like grated daikon, wasabi, and seaweed.

There are also variations to the basic buckwheat noodles. The Bibim Buckwheat Noodles (S$16) is a crossbreed of bibimbap and soba where the noodles here are tossed in Mijin’s original bibim sauce made from fresh fruits and minced beef. Overall, it is flavourful but not too spicy.

A lighter version to go for is also the Perilla Buckwheat Noodles with Marinated Salmon (S$20) which is a Singapore-exclusive.

For protein, there is the Bossam (S$30/large) where the pork belly slices are served with napa cabbage, ssamjang, and fermented shrimp sauce. The portion is quite huge and good for sharing between 3-4 pax.

Other side dishes to expect include the Buckwheat Kimchi Pancake (S$19) which is made from the same flour as the noodles. The texture of the pancake is relatively chewy.

The Fried Pork Cutlet (S$18) is a Korean-style tonkatsu which is marinated for 8 hours and fried to a golden crust and served with a sweet house-made sauce.

The Korean Dumplings (S$7/3 pieces) are easy to share. The dumplings are quite plump, and hand-wrapped, filled with minced pork, leek, garlic and spring onions.

Rants The interior seating space is quite tight which might not be that ideal for big dining groups.
Will I Return Again? This spot should be a hit amongst the CBD crowd for lunch. I love the Signature Buckwheat Noodles most at Gwanghwamun Mijin and prices are relatively affordable too.
