Hotel Review: The Ruma Hotel And Residences, Kuala Lumpur | Well-Located Michelin Key Hotel in Malaysia
The Hotel For my recent trip to K Lthis year, I checked out The Ruma Hotel and Residences, a luxurious urban retreat nestled in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle. Located on Jalan Kia Peng, Ruma Hotel enjoys a prime yet slightly secluded position that offers both tranquility and convenience.
The Ruma also made it to the prestigious list of Michelin Key Hotels in Malaysia this year, with The Ruma being listed as One Key.

In terms of its location, you can easily walk to iconic landmarks such as the Petronas Twin Towers and Pavilion Kuala Lumpur or take advantage of the nearby air-conditioned pedestrian bridge that connects to the city’s major shopping and entertainment hubs.
My first impression as I stepped into the hotel’s lobby is that it exudes a cosy and homely ambience, where the name “Ruma” also means “home” in Malay.

The interior of the hotel is designed with a blend of contemporary elegance and local heritage, where the lobby takes on warm tones which is very soothing to step into from the blazing noon day heat of KL. My eyes were drawn to the two adjacent spiral stairways which lead to the mezzanine level where Atas restaurant is located. Other than the check-in reception at the lobby, it is also home to Seven Lobby Bar and The Librari.

The Room There are quite a couple of room categories though even the most entry level Deluxe Room is spacious and well-appointed.

Each room is thoughtfully appointed with modern comforts such as deep soaking bathtubs, rainfall showers, blackout curtains, and complimentary minibars. Many rooms offer city or landmark views, with some even providing glimpses of the Petronas Towers.

I stayed at the spacious and luxuriously appointed Grand Room (45 m²). Right beside the entrance is a spacious walk-in wardrobe zone with full length mirror, which is a thoughtful design.

It is an open layout where the bedroom can be separated from the bathroom area by a sliding floor-to-ceiling partition.

For those who need to catch up on some work, the work desk is also fairly big to accommodate at least two laptops.

I like the use of blinds which complement the blackout curtains as the blinds add to the elegance of the overall design.

The bathroom is definitely one of my favourite parts of the room.

It comes with double vanity sinks and the standing shower zone (with good water pressure) incorporates a beautiful bathtub set against beside the window.

If you are up for a splurge, the Ruma Suite (111 m²) is definitely one to try. I was lucky to get a tour of this expansive suite!

The Facilities On the 6th floor is the wellness hub that includes a 25-metres outdoor pool, a sundeck, and The Santai Pool Bar.

The on-site Ur Spa offers gender-neutral treatments.

There is also a well-equipped 24-hour gym which is decent for cardio or resistance workout.

The 25-metres outdoor pool has a partial view of Petronas Tower, where there are ample sheltered beds to relax for those who do not wish to have a tan.

The Restaurants Atas is the hotel’s signature restaurant which serves modern Malaysian cuisine with a focus on sustainability and local ingredients.

It is an open kitchen concept where Atas also does a Sunday seafood brunch buffet where you can order unlimited servings of most dishes from an ala carte menu which complements the buffet spread, which include an outdoor terrace barbecue seafood station.

Breakfast buffet is also served at Atas where you can expect a mix of local delights and international cuisine.
For drinks, Seven Lobby Bar offers a curated selection of gins and tonics with up to 77 types of gin, while The Librari provides a cozy space for afternoon tea and light bites.

Located at the same level as the outdoor pool, The Santai Pool Bar rounds out the offerings with cocktails and snacks served poolside throughout the day.

Rants The gym is not that well-equipped for serious gym goers. In addition, I also think the buffet at Atas could be better in terms of quality.
Overall Experience I had a very comfortable stay at The Ruma Hotel and Residences. It is an ideal location for business or leisure where I am most impressed by the cosy and elegant design of the hotel and rooms.
