Hotel Review: Amara Sanctuary Sentosa, Couple Suite with Pool Access

The Hotel The last time I stayed at Amara Sanctuary Sentosa was more than a decade ago, and I managed to revisit it recently. The resort’s location is a 25-minute drive from Changi Airport by taxi or private hire, or you can take the MRT to Harbour Front MRT and you can hop on the complimentary resort shuttle.

The unique feature of Amara Sanctuary Sentosa is the lush greenery landscape and colonial heritage buildings which house the rooms, suites and villas.

It is a spot full of history if you love a rich heritage story, and do not be surprised to spot free-roaming peacocks as well.

The check-in lobby area is spacious and spots a water feature skylight with natural light streaming in during the day.

The Room With multiple room types across the rooms, suites and villas categories, I checked into the Couple Suite with Pool Access which is quite a unique layout designed with intimacy and relaxation in mind.

Located in a heritage block away from the main hotel building, which is formerly a British army barracks, the unique two-story heritage building has been repurposed to house the Couple Suites on the ground floor of Larkhill Terrace.

The 58sqm suite features a spacious layout with a king-sized bed, a private patio, and direct access to a 45-metre infinity pool.

The highlight of the suite for me are the outdoor bathtub and daybed, perfect for unwinding with utmost privacy.

The only downside of the design is that the double vanity sinks are located in the outdoor area, which can be inconvenient if you need to use it at night.

Other notable amenities in the suite include the complimentary mini-bar, Nespresso machine, and Appelles Apothecary toiletries. It is also very convenient to head into the pool directly.

The Facilities Beyond the suite, the resort offers multiple pools, a well-equipped fitness center, and spa.

There are three outdoor pools, each offering a unique vibe. For those seeking tranquillity, the Dream Pool sits nestled in a lush rainforest garden.

Or head to the Sky Pool for panoramic views of the South China Sea.

Exclusive to Couple Suite and Junior Suite guests, the infinity Larkhill Terrace Pool offers the best of nature and privacy with direct room access.

For gym junkies, the fitness centre is housed within a conservation building. It is decently equipped though it does show signs of aging.

For those who do not drive, there is a complimentary shuttle bus to and from Harbour Front (opposite VivoCity)  – with a stop at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) for those who want to dine or explore RWS.

Buggy service is also available for free within the resort.

In addition, there are also a couple of local experiences offered by the resort, such as the Amara Heritage Trail which I managed to go for. Led by one of the resort’s experienced staff, there is a curated walking path to learn more about the history of the resort’s ground. The highlight for me is to discover a bomb shelter within the resort which has seen through World War Two days.

The Restaurants Sanctuary Tearoom offers all-day dining where you can enjoy the all-day breakfast, high tea, and dinner buffet.

The breakfast spread is quite basic with an egg station, fruits, salad, and local delights. I think the variety offered could be stepped up further.

Other dining concepts in the hotel include Verve Bar + Grill which is a mix of Indian and Asian fusion cuisine, as well as Yue Private Dining which is a Cantonese restaurant.

Rants The breakfast spread could be improved further.

Overall Experience I enjoyed my time at the Couple Suite which is very serene. It is nice to have a semi-private pool with direct access from the suite. I highly recommend this category if you are planning a stay here.
