Udon Shin
We all love Japanese food, don’t we? Located at basement two of Takashimaya in Ngee Ann City is the newly opened Udon Shin, Tokyo’s udon specialist which made its first international debut in Singapore this November. The brand started back in 2011 in Shibuya, it is well known for its chewy and freshly handmade udon. Udon Shin operates on its “Four Fresh” philosophy – freshly kneaded, freshly cut, freshly boiled, and freshly fried. Each strand of udon is freshly made in-house daily for a signature silky-yet-springy texture, delivering a balance of koshi )firmness) and nobi (stretchiness). While the carbonara udon is the signature cult favourite, the menu also features comforting hot and cold udon dishes alongside tempura fried to order. [Read more here for our full review

Ban Lan
Located at level two of Scotts Square, a new opening in this mall is the Michelin-selected Ban Lan restaurant which hails from Fuzhou, China. Helmed by Chef Sun Xiao Yang, a disciple of Chef Wu Rong – one Michelin Star and the 2024 Chef of the Year by the Black Pearl Restaurant Guide, Ban Lan focuses on Fujian cuisine and its space is a contemporary wooden interior with a main dining hall and a few private dining rooms. Expect traditional Fujian dishes on the menu with a focus on lighter seasoning and pure, natural flavors. Pout Rooftop Cafe
This rooftop cafe does not feel like Singapore as there are not many spaces which offer a view like this. Located at CMO Building on 50 South Bridge Road, this Pout Rooftop Cafe went viral on social media the moment it opened about a month ago and I can see why. The cafe is tucked away out of sight from the streets as it is located on level 6 of the building, and it offers a panoramic view of the city, including the iconic Marina Bay Sands and Parliament House. The space of Pout Rooftop Cafe takes on a cosy and somewhat minimalist interior. I guess it adds to the charm where the counter and display of pastries are set against the backdrop of the city, which makes it very inviting. Do not expect a full brunch menu here as the cafe focuses mainly on selected pastries and beverages. Expect the likes of Croissant (S$7), Kouign Amman (S$8), Matcha Latte (S$6.9), Peanut Butter Mocha (S$7.9), and more. [Read more here for our full review

All Hands Cafe
There are not many shokupan focused cafes in Singapore and here’s one new one in town. Located along Telok Ayer Street is All Hands Cafe which specialises with their in-house baked shokupan. We had their signature shokupans which sound quite interesting – Kaya with Shaved Butter & Creamy Chocolate Cream with Milo – which are pretty much very locally inspired. You can also customise your own shokupan by choosing the base and toppings. We were quite pleased with the Garlic Shrimps with Egg Mayo we had. For something more substantial, there are also Open-Faced Shokupan creations like the Burrata with Parma Ham!
Address: 159 Telok Ayer Street, Singapore 068614

South & East
I didn’t expect a dining concept like South & East to be nestled with National University of Singapore (NUS). South & East is a full-service restaurant located at the Shaw Foundation Alumni House at NUS by husband-and-wife chefs Shane Gan and Evelyna Wibawa, which is a continuation of the duo’s private dining venture and pop-up series, SouthEast from October 2024 to June 2025. Both husband and wife were previously trained at Michelin-starred kitchens and acclaimed restaurants to craft charcoal-grilled and smoked creations infused with bold Southeast Asian flavours. The cuisine here is a take on Southeast Asian flavours and one of the signatures is the Five Spice Smoked Beef Short Ribs (S$67/regular).

Two Michelin Starred Sushi Sakuta Relocates To Millenia Walk
Opened since 2022, the Michelin starred Sushi Sakuta is the only restaurant being promoted from one star to two stars in Michelin Guide Singapore 2025. Previously located at The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore, Sushi Sakuta has a new home now at Millenia Walk and is still helmed by Chef-Owner Yoshio Sakuta. Upon entering the space, there is a zen pathway which leads to the main 10-seat counter. There is also a 6-seat private room. Inspired by the Sukiya style of architecture, the interior embodies shibui elegance: refined and minimalist looking. Sushi Sakuta serves sushi omakase where ingredients are showcased in their purest form. Lunch and dinner services are available with two menus for lunch at S$350++ (3 appetisers, 8 Sushi, 1 Soup, 1 Dessert) or S$500++ (5 appetisers, 10 Sushi, 1 Soup, 1 Dessert), while dinner is just one menu at S$500++ (5 appetisers, 10 Sushi, 1 Soup, 1 Dessert). The shari, which uses two kinds of red and two kinds of white vinegar, is amazing. [Read more here for our full review

Lavo Italian Restaurant And Rooftop Bar Spots A Revamped Interior
Located on level 57 of Marina Bay Sands Tower 1, Lavo Italian Restaurant And Rooftop Bar is a contemporary Italian restaurant with a gorgeous view of the city skyline. The restaurant went through a massive revamp this year and reopened few months ago. I love how welcoming the space of Lavo is, where its interior takes after coastal Italy with a summer vibe, where there are different sections of dining space to cater to different group sizes. The menu at Lavo is extensive where I visited for lunch. You can expect a wide range of starters, pizzas, pastas, meats and seafood. There is also a spacious alfresco dining area which is perfect for sunset drinks with a view of the skyline. [Read more here for our full review

Helmed by Chef Shyong, former Head Chef of Shirokane Tori-Tama, together with Chef Desmond Fong of Sushi Yujo and Shinrai, the new lunch menu at Sapōto starts from S$68, one of the best value omakase experiences in town. You can expect seasonal appetisers, signature yakitori skewers, a comforting rice course and dessert.

The Only Colombian Restaurant In Singapore Latido Spots A New Menu
Back at Latido for dinner and food is still as good and interesting as I remember. The team had made some changes to their menu with new dishes, though you can still expect signatures like their Homemade Rye Bread. New dishes to expect include the Carimañola Jaiva which features Cassava, Crab Meat and Rambutan; Pincho de Cordero which features Lamb Saddle, Umami Glaze, Onion, Gooseberry; Maiz Dulce Crocante which features Sweet Corn, Avocado, Shimeji and Confit Egg; Trifasico which features Beef Short Rib, Lobster Tail, Chorizo and Mushroom.

New Winter Omakase Menu At Shin Terroir
A back alley yakitori Omakase restaurant in Tanjong Pagar, the new winter menu at Shin Terroir is available from 18 November to 5 December where Chef Takeshi presents a curated tasting menu. Expect dishes like Hokigai Chawanmushi topped with caviar; Hokkaido salmon smoked for four hours with Japanese black bean miso sauce; Japanese A5 Wagyu from Gunma prefecture; and a series of yakitori sticks which include the likes of chicken wing, neck, thigh, and more.

PS.Cafe Spots A New Menu
PS.Cafe has been around for many years in Singapore, and this is probably one of their strongest menus in recent years for us. I love that new dish on the menu – Mee Siam Cacio Spaghettini – a very legit take on local Mee Siam. The cream & parmesan cheese sauce infused with mee siam spices is so good, not to mention that it is also topped with onsen egg, sakura ebi and tau pok chips! The PS.Burger is a decent option for something substantial. It uses barley-fed beef with a juicy center and lightly charred crust, served in toasted buns layered with creamy, sweet-tangy hosuemade burger sauce, melted cheddar, and crisp housemade pickles. The Steak Frites surprised me too. Tender and juicy Black Angus sirloin which is seasoned with the signature PS. spice blend, served with a bold horseradish cream. Accompanied by crispy pickled onion rings, golden shoestring fries, and a fresh frisée and herb salad of mesclun, coriander, mint, and parsley. Other dishes we had include the new Sesame Cream Caesar and an old favourite brought back, their Chocolate Crunch Doorstop cake which is so decadent.
