Food Review: Bomul Samgyetang At CHIJMES | Comforting Korean Ginseng Soup Restaurant With More Than 10 Flavours

The Place We all love our Samgyetang, also known as Korean Ginseng Chicken soup. Meet Bomul Samgyetang, a new casual Korean restaurant located in CHIJMES. Bomul Samgyetang boasts the largest range of samgyetang in Singapore, with 10 variations of the soup: from detoxification to spicy cure, collagen-rich, anti-ageing, rejuvenation, vitality, and even modern interpretations such as black truffle.

The casual space of Bomul Samgyetang takes on a clean aesthetic, with spacious table setting and cutlery conveniently hidden under the table.

The Food Traditionally enjoyed during Korea’s hottest summer days, samgyetang is a nourishing dish made by simmering a whole young chicken stuffed with glutinous rice, ginseng, garlic, and jujubes. Embracing the belief of “iyeol chiyeol” fighting heat with heat, Koreans savour this comforting soup during the Boknal days to restore energy and promote balance, celebrating a centuries-old tradition of health and vitality.

I managed to try a few flavours of the Samgyetang out of the 10 renditions. My favourite of the lot is the Energy (S$36) where the broth is enjoyable to sip continuously. I love the fragrant 100% Korean perilla here – a versatile herb with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial properties.

The Rejuvenation (S$36) rendition is infused with aged black garlic, carrying layers of caramelised depth.

My least favourite is the Spicy Cure (S$32), brewed with extra-spicy chilli pepper, herbs, chives, and enoki mushrooms. I personally find it too spicy to enjoy the broth on its own.

For side dishes to complement the soup, I highly recommend the Seafood Pancake (S$25) which has one of the best crisp textures around.

There is also the Duck and Chicken Breast Ddukgalbi (S$22), comprising tender duck and chicken breast paired with chewy rice cakes, glazed with a savory-sweet sauce.

For desserts, I had Bomul’s House-made Ice Cream (S$6 per scoop): the Signature Black Sesame, made with roasted black sesame paste, and the Ginseng, infused with fine Korean red ginseng powder which spots an earthy, revitalising flavour.

Rants No reservations are taken for now.

Will I Return Again? Finally, there is something new and exciting at CHIJMES. Bomul Samgyetang will be a hotspot for Korean food lovers and is worth checking out for sure.
